I totally agree about Change, it was a lackluster choice, but Denial? Never in a million years was that a poor single. It’s among their all time finest!!! But defo Never or My Love is Pink should have followed up About You Now. Especially when GA released Call the shots
can we just take a moment to acknowledge how amazing this remix of thee Nicola Roberts’ Beat of my Drum is? It’s giving Beat of My Drum but make it Martin Solveig 🤌🏻

Fun fact: it was pitched to JLo and Christina Milian (and apparently there’s a Milian version, somewhere, as she recorded the song)

I see what you mean. It does sound like a typical Ciara/Amerie/Ashanti/any other pop-R&B singer of the mid 2000s kinda track with those very of its time crunk&B elements, but the American radios would have eaten that up at the time. This truly could have been their cracker there.

Ace Reject screams a final single, overall my ideal rollout would be PTB, Gotta Be, Ugly, Red Dress, and Ace Reject (or Now that you’re gone if they wanted to capitalize on Amelle joining the band)

Song so good they decided not to release it as a single 😖

As much as I love Ugly, I believe they should have kept "the party going" with Gotta Be You, and then could have switched the mood to more introspective with the third single.

Yep. Apparently it was a straw that broke the camel’s back 🫨

They essentially invented 2009-2011 pop music with Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling 🫡

That would be perfect but I believe she would have left at one point or another. But maybe if American success had happened, she wouldn’t have left in the midst of the album cycle.

Let’s imagine Mutya leaves circa Ugly release in spring 2006. So then comes Red Dress c. May 2006 (I doubt it would have been a hit in the US but who knows) which introduces Amelle, and let’s finish the era off with a re-recorded Ace Reject in the late summer early fall 2006.

Ugly as the 3rd single and their second US single from Taller. It would have catered to top 40/adult contempo/soccer mom market that was actually huge around the time in the US (Bad Day, Ur beautiful, Unwritten, that one Nick Lachey song)
there’s an alternate universe where gotta be you was Sugababes follow-up to Push the Button instead of Ugly and it cracked America, becoming their first and only Hot 100 top 40 hit, peaking at no.33 in March of 2006

The way Sugababes… damn… Sugababes 3.0. of all lineups made Robyn 🫨🫨🫨

Have just listened to it for the first time in a long time and… is not as bad as I remembered it. Still, it’s extremely soapy and as much as I love soapy sentimental ballads, this one is too much.

Oh wow… mended by you. I have some opinions on that but I ain’t gonna kill the vibe 🤫
