My new draft legislation - “The Slide Act” - aims to cut down on innocent victims getting swept up in other people’s gun use. Everyday uninvolved folks just trying to make it through life best they can deserve to be safe — whether it’s a night out at a spot or inside their own house or apartment. We even got little babies out here catching stray rounds because people doing too damn much these days… 🚨 Consecutive day-for-day firearms sentence enhancements ranging from 10-25 years if it’s an innocent victim or their property. You’ll do your time for the charge and then this gets tacked on the end just like the Feds do it. 🚨 Day-for-day sentence on any felony conviction involving a gun and an innocent victim if committed within 3yrs of the completion of a prior sentence for a felony conviction. 🚨 Juveniles age 12-17 charged as adults in General Sessions instead of minors in Family Court if the charge involves the use of a firearm. The juvenile is able to request the court waive them down to family court - the reverse of how it is now where you’re charged as a minor and the prosecutor requests to waive you up. 🚨 Dedicated Parental Charge when a juvenile uses a firearm and certain elements are met. Basically, this is a Sheriff Lott on steroids charge. Moral of the story is this. Parents, raise your kids. Kids, don’t throw your life away because real life consequences ain’t got a respawn mode like a video game. Grown folks, we make choices about how we live. Some wanna live a certain life, and while I will always encourage, support, and push for them to change before it’s too late, I can respect their personal decision to live it. But we gotta get back to the old code of keeping all that away from the people who made a different personal decision to not live that way. Too many innocent people out here getting hurt and living scared, and that ain’t fair to them.
