If you're a Londoner working in Engineering Biology, there's only one place to be on 15 Oct, because the new season of @london_synbio events starts at UCL! Come for everything that's great about SynBio: theory, hardware, wet lab experiments, and of course networking w/ free food

People in SynBio are still recovering from my past two conference sketches, so this time I'm traumatising Control Theory researchers instead. Click the link in thread to read the latest humorous report from #CDC2025 by @CSSIEEE in Rio de Janeiro

Not sure if that's what @BiochemSoc had in mind when asking us to share our conference experience with the tags #BiochemEvent and #SBUK2025, but here comes my humorous SKETCH of this week's London gathering (link in the next post)

So you want to change transgene expression: just change your promoter, right? Changing the promoter increases RNA and thus protein levels. What more could be happening? [1/n] Well, promoters don’t just set RNA levels; they uniquely transform how RNAs are transmitted into protein levels. 🧵

NEW PREPRINT! Do you think we can do better when characterising resource competition properties of gene circuit modules? If no, think again; if yes, you’re in for a pitch how exactly we can do that – automated culturing, cybergenetic control and all! 1/ doi.org/10.1101/2025.04.01.6…

MagLOV results reproduced✅ We cranked the LED power and found the response can be much faster! Absolute change roughly the same at each LED power, i.e. contrast change likely due to the background, not MagLOV response. Many thanks to the Calico folks for sharing their discovery!
