News: The US administration launches fast-track development of new nuclear, ordering the NRC to complete licensing of new reactor designs within 18 months and the DOE to speed up reactor testing and start building on federal land in the next 3 years axios.com/pro/energy-policy/…

Where do federal clean energy dollars actually go? New tool from @cleanaircatf maps U.S. federal clean energy investments: catf.us/us/us-federal-clean-… One takeaway: Republican districts received 4x more federal clean energy investment than Democratic districts (as of March 2025).

New bill in MA opens the door for state procurement of energy projects and repeals the need for a statewide ballot initiative to build new nuclear, thoughts? @isonewengland modeled 15GW of SMRs would reduce RE needs by 57% (at $70/MWh by 2050). 2x cost results in 10GW

Note that @opg's recent SMR procurement are coming in around $150CAD/MWh.

Adv nuclear and next-gen geothermal have strategic energy security and reliability benefits beyond climate. Remember that for Gen I-II reactors, US gov fully or partially funded the first 10 nuclear power plants and subsidized fuel to overcome the "missing middle" investment gap
If the US loses the advanced nuclear industry to China, we can look back at these 10 lines of text as the proximate cause, should they be enacted.

Does low-emission ammonia for power make sense? 1. Blue ammonia cuts LNG GHG by ~50%—at double the fuel costs 2. Co-firing risks NOx and N₂O emissions (273x GHG warming of CO2) 3. Abatement is ~$400/tonne (w/o N₂O) 4. Replacing Japan’s gas would take 120MT/yr—6x global ammonia

I'm not a Texas resident, but I follow power market design debates closely—and it's hard to miss how far SB715 diverges from sound analysis and expert consensus. Business groups, manufacturers, industry, @ERCOT_ISO leadership, and even thermal generators raised concerns.
HB 3356 and SB 715 will raise power bills and lower reliability, all while pretending to be a fix. This proposal is expensive, inefficient & would lead to retirements of existing generation. The bill acknowledges "net increased cost to consumers." Who would pay for that? #txlege

Policy grounded in rhetoric instead of reliability and economics foundations risk higher costs and worse outcomes for everyone. #ElectricityMarkets #EnergyPolicy #TexasEnergy #Reliability

Great framing by @VijayVaitheesw2 in @TheEconomist on some prevalent factors limiting the speed of #decarbonization and preparing us to manage #climatechange. See favorite quotes below.
"Climate change is a problem of a different magnitude" @TheEconomist lays out the scale & complexity of the decarbonization challenge & makes a compelling case for an environmentalism that acknowledges growing energy demand & need for more infrastructure. economist.com/leaders/2023/0…

(4/4) "To demonise [growth and the building of new infrastructure], as some environmentalists do, is to expose the world to more #climatechange, not less."
