DID YOU KNOW: The Constitutional Square (aka City Square), is home to over 20 tree species and a habitat to over 6 bird species.
Deriving its name from being the site where the 1995 Constitution was promulgated, the Constitutional Square is a heritage site, recognized under the Museums and Monuments Act, 2023. It houses the 1945 war memorial and is a protected site since 2007.
#KCCAatWork has routinely maintained this green space by planting grass and flowers to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
Paved walkways to improve accessibility and ease of movement even for PWDs have been constructed and bins installed for proper waste management.
Two FREE public toilets are in place and installation of more benches is ongoing #ForALivableCtiy.
These two African cities are strengthening their efforts to monitor air pollution, share knowledge and find practical ways to protect residents, with Kampala offering lessons from its growing monitoring network and community-led initiatives.

We thank everyone who came out to join in on th #NationalCleaningDay today. We do this again on the 29th of August, 2026.
Our trucks are making rounds all over the city to collect all garbage and as such, we encourage all communities around the city to bring out the garbage to designated collection spots for evacuation.
A cleaner city is everybody's responsibility.

Proud to share The Kampala Experience at the Africa Clean Air Forum 2026 in Pretoria, South Africa.
@KCCAUG now leads Africa in transparent air quality reporting with 134 monitors across the city. Despite average levels of 39 µg/m³, within Uganda’s national standard, we are determined to cut this in half by 2030.
Our capacity & commitment have earned Kampala the National Environment Sustainability Award, a Guangzhou Innovation nomination, and 1st African City to be inducted into the International Network of Tree Cities, for our amazing 5,705 trees per SqKm
I am convinced that pollution knows no borders. Clean air must be a shared responsibility.

At #AfricaCleanAirForum2026, @KCCAED shared how Kampala is using real-time data to inform its Air Quality Action Plan, strengthen reporting and support city regulations.
@KCCAUG is also integrating #AirQuality into road construction, waste management, traffic planning, electric mobility, and walking and cycling infrastructure.
A key lesson from Kampala: place monitors where pollution is most likely, not only where the readings will look good. Good policies begin with an honest picture of the problem.

Replying to @iBaino
@iBaino, our Project Lead, opens the @KCCAUG multi-sector dialogue with a data-driven reflection on the state of #AirQuality in Kampala.
Drawing from AirQo’s evidence, he unpacked what the data is telling us about pollution levels across the city, and posed a critical question to the room: now that we have the data, what actions are we willing to take?
Moving from awareness to implementation is where real impact lies.
