Exciting two days in the field with @UNITEflagship crew. Positioning technologies were put to the test during a thinning of Norway spruce forest. @fgi_nls @Forest_sciences @LukeFinland @Ponsse @risutec

New paper led by @ninni_saarinen: Our aim was to investigate how crown structure of Scots pine trees varied within different growing conditions due to past thinning treatments. --> doi.org/10.3389/fpls.2022.81… @UNITEflagship @LukeFinland @Forest_sciences @fgi_nls @ForestSciences

New paper: We explored the use of point cloud data to further our understanding on the dependencies between tree characteristics and internal wood properties. Check it out mdpi.com/1521774 @Forests_Mdpi @UNITEflagship @Forest_sciences @fgi_nls @LukeFinland @ForestSciences

My first live talk for a long time. It was great to speak at annual seminar of Forest and bioeconomy research community @UniEastFinland and see everyone. @Forest_sciences @UNITEflagship #forest #research

My new website is finally online. I am so excited to have a place for my photography and forest research. Go check it out: villekankarephoto.com #photography #forestresearch @UNITEflagship @Forest_sciences

Here we go again. Yesterday we kicked off another TLS campaign at Evo for the year 2021. TLS time series is shaping up fast. #scanforest @UNITEflagship @Forest_sciences @fgi_nls Find out more at scanforest.fi

First virtual meeting of the UEF leader 2021-22 program was full of great discussions. What does it mean to be a leader in a research community? I have some many things to reflect on. This will be an exciting journey. @UniEastFinland @UNITEflagship @Forest_sciences

First day at my new position as a University Research Fellow (Geospatial technologies and digitalization in forest operations and logistics) @Forest_sciences. Exciting autumn ahead. @UNITEflagship @UniEastFinland #precisionforestry

Submitted an extended abstract to @SilviLaser2021 this Monday. It has been almost ten years since I have been at the conference. Silvilaser 2012 in Vancouver was one of my first conferences as a Ph.D. student. That trip was quite an adventure. @UNITEflagship @Forest_sciences

✅ #TLS spring campaign at Evo is now done and the foundation for TLS time series is starting to take shape. Research assistants did an awesome job in the field! Thx! #scan4est @Forest_sciences @UNITEflagship @fgi_nls

Perfect place to relax over the weekend and let the mind wander. #nature @Forest_sciences @UNITEflagship

Exciting day today. Tuomas Yrttimaa is defending his dissertation @Forest_sciences today. We could only dream of the tools that Tuomas has created when we measured diameters by hand from the point clouds 10y ago. Awesome work Tuomas! #TLS @UNITEflagship uef.fi/en/article/characteri…

”Finding new, innovative ways to build a better life for tomorrow” is a goal to aim for and here are few keywords from todays forum how to achieve it. Thank you for the most inspiring set of speakers and discussions at #MIF2021 forum today @UNITEflagship @Forest_sciences

Any suggestions for what is the best #GIS app to use in the field that works in both IOS and Android? Or do you still prefer to go old school and use paper maps? #forest #research #remotesensing #scan4est @UNITEflagship @Forest_sciences @UniEastFinland

Spring weather at its finest. I took my #remoteoffice outside. I still have few things to do before a new manuscript will see the daylight. #forest #research #remotesensing #scan4est @UNITEflagship @Forest_sciences @UniEastFinland

Here we go. First day out in the field for 2021 #TLS campaign at Evo. Fun day full of teaching the basics of TLS data acquisition in practice for our new research assistants. #forest #pointcloud #learning #scan4est @Forest_sciences @UniEastFinland @UNITEflagship @fgi_nls
