Y’ALL MFS OWE THE HAWKS AND STATE FARM ARENA AN APOLOGY. mfs went out their way to use personal relationship capital to try to accommodate a team they ain’t got shit to do with. the atlanta front office needs to get fined. idc.
Fun little aside: During the frantic negotiations over the weekend, an unlikely ally emerged-- the @WWE . At one point, sources told ESPN that Steve Koonin Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena CEO reached out to WWE President Nick Khan and asked if he'd be willing to move the telecast of this week's Smackdown to accommodate Game 6 of the WNBA Finals on Friday night. Smackdown usually airs at 8 p.m. on Friday nights on USA Network, which is the broadcast network for this game. If Game 6 were to be played from 7-9 pm at State Farm Arena, the WWE would have to move an hour later.  Koonin, the former President of TBS, had known Khan for decades. Khan told him they'd be fine with the later broadcast window if that’s what was needed to help the WNBA Finals play in a more appropriate arena.  After that sign off however, new concerns were raised by WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert about playing a potential Game 7 on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Election Night. So that plan fell apart and the league moved back on to the idea of playing at 12:30 pm on Thursday.  Smackdown will remain at its regularly scheduled time. The Dream announced earlier Wednesday that Thursday’s Game 6 is sold out. espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/503…

I’m sorry, the WNBA Finals scheduling fiasco is DEEPLY misogynistic? No, the Game 6 scheduling blame is fully on the WNBA & Atlanta Dream leadership. As ESPN reported over the weekend, the NBA said they could’ve been flexible with more notice, but they couldn’t blow up their schedule on just a few days’ notice. When the term “misogyny” gets stretched in situations like this, it undermines situations that are actually deeply misogynistic. I think the fair debate to have is whether or not the best outcome for the WNBA is to play midday at State Farm or play during primetime in a 3500 seat arena. Neither option is great.
the decision for the wnba finals to be moved to the middle of a work day for the sake of a regular season nba game is not only DEEPLY misogynistic but also a blatant cash grab by everyone involved because the fans ability to go to and watch the game was clearly not considered

Trae Young went from being the best PG in the league to being this soft and incompetent.

Trae Young just played one of the worst halves of defensive basketball I think I’ve ever seen. That was ridiculous even for him. Hope he keeps it up.

Can we please stop with this lazy narrative it’s the Hawks that should be playing at 12:30.. or even blame the Hawks for this Game 6 mess. Hawks play the night before & im guessing there is something in CBA about playing 2-games in 14 hr span. This is all on WNBA.. they’ve known since playoffs started this could/would be an issue & chose to play in front of 17K at 12:30 pm over 3.5K in primetime.

ticket reps would be led to the slaughter in this scenario 😂
Obviously this situation with Game 6 isn't really great for anyone involved. I wonder if they considered playing the Hawks game at Gateway Arena that night. Could have been a huge PR win for them, figure out a way to get some of the money from the Dream game back to them.

hawks ownership deserves its fair share of flack over the years, but this is not one of those times
NBA games can be moved to a later date, happened several times previously. The fact Hawks ownership is SO incredibly unwilling to swap their game time or schedule around but the WNBA championship can't be moved for "logistics" when they're BOTH logistic problems is LMAO

Hawks stepping up again to help 🫡
After a weekend of nonstop frantic discussions and negotiation, Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will be played Thursday at 12:30 pm at 17,000-seat State Farm Arena in Atlanta, sources told ESPN. The Atlanta Hawks-Cleveland Cavaliers game that night will move back to 8 pm to accommodate the doubleheader, just as the Hawks did for Game 4. This allows a potential Game 7 to remain scheduled for Halloween at Chase Center in San Francisco. All three Finals games in Atlanta have required hurried adjustments to the schedule at State Farm Arena. It took collective efforts from the WNBA, NBA, the Hawks, State Farm Arena, Dream, Valkyries and broadcast partners to figure out the best course of action again. By moving the game earlier in the day, the WNBA avoided a scenario where a potential championship game was played inside the Dream’s home arena, the 3,500 seat Gateway Center. The other option under strong consideration was moving Game 6 to an open date at State Farm Arena on Friday and Game 7 to an open date at Chase Center on Tuesday, November 3.

it is, but again, taking time to disrespect a team and its fan base is an interesting way to go about to gaining support just saying 🤷‍♂️
This is the finals It’s not entitlement. The Dream and Valkyries EARNED this, something my hawks haven’t done in my lifetime (and my parents lifetime for that matter…)
