Are you seeing very few bumblebees this month? 🧵
We're in a gap between 'peak queen' bumblebee (spring when lots of overwintered queens are looking for nest sites) & 'peak worker' bumblebee (mid summer). This year the gap seems to be deeper & more pronounced than normal. 1/7

Happy #WorldBeeDay! Enjoying a few moments in our fabulous wildflower meadows surrounding the buildings at work @UK_CEH Wallingford. In just 3-4 years, packed with yellow rattle, buttercup, red clover, oxeye daisy and more. Mown paths providing bare soil for nesting solitary bees

What has happened to all the Isle of May guillemots? The first egg was the latest ever but adjusting for that we should still be peak laying now and the cliffs are terrifyingly empty. Even those that have laid don't seem committed and are losing their eggs at an alarming rate.1/2
