Everyone is laughing at the hacker who dumped 908,793 $PROM token worth $5 million into a nearly empty Uniswap pool and received just $71 in ETH

But there's something interesting I think people are missing.
Where did the remaining $4,999,929 go?
Who owns that money?
Can Binance recover it?
Imagine you have 908,793 chocolates. Someone tells you they're worth $5M
You take them to a shop to sell, but the shop only has $71 in its cash register.
You give the shop all your chocolates and it gives you the $71 it has.
Did the shop steal the remaining $4,999,929?
No
That money was never in the shop in the first place.
That's basically what happened here.
The hacker's PROM tokens had a quoted market value of around $5 million but the Uniswap pool didn't have anywhere near that amount of ETH available to buy them.
So the hacker received only 0.0316 ETH worth approximately $71.
Now here's the important part
>Uniswap didn't receive the missing $5 million.
>Binance cannot simply ask Uniswap to hand over money that doesn't exist.
> The tokens deposited are still in the pool but their market value doesn't mean someone is willing to buy them at that price
> If the hacker's wallet is linked to criminal activity, authorities may investigate and potentially pursue recoverable assets.
The lesson?
In crypto, having tokens worth $5 million on paper doesn't mean you can actually sell them for $5 million.
Price is one thing
Liquidity is another
And sometimes, the biggest loss isn't money someone stole from you.
It's money you thought you had but could never cash out. 😂
