The BC NDP is bigger than one person. It’s a team that believes that access to healthcare shouldn’t depend on your ability to pay; that kids should have quality education; that every worker deserves safe work and fair compensation; and that... 1/3 facebook.com/share/r/1Hvc5Pw…

That’s a wrap on UBCM! As a former city councillor, I’ve seen the impact and importance of local government. Thank you to all the mayors, councillors, regional district chairs and directors - every local representative who show up each day for their communities.

It was a pleasure to be in Haida Gwaii this week with Ministers @TamaraDavidson6 and @Diana_Gibson_BC to announce funding to help more rural, remote and Indigenous communities enable 911 dialling. 1/2

It was particularly special to make this announcement in Haida Gwaii, where they continue to demonstrate what resilient and connected communities can achieve. Thank you to the Haida Nation, Old Massett Village Council, and Skidegate Band Council for having us. 2/2

And while visiting the CRD Emergency Operations Centre, it was wonderful to witness Chair Wagner lift the final evacuation alert for the Pear Lake Wildfire in CRD area. 3/4

Glad to visit Summerland earlier this week. During wildfire response, we had asked people to visit other areas in BC or reschedule to give room for first responders and evacuees, and we are thankful to everyone who did so. But now, it’s time to come back!

This long weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, as students prepare to return to school. Wildfire season isn't over yet, so check fire restrictions, watch for smoke and plan your route before heading out. Enjoy it safely. 👉 news.gov.bc.ca/34239

It’s an honour to meet with the Summerland Fire Department to thank them in person for their incredible work. During this very difficult time, we’ve seen how their courage, professionalism and commitment have made a difference. And we’re so grateful.

In an emergency, it takes everyone pulling together. That’s exactly what Summerland did. They’ve shown grit and compassion as they came together, from the initial response, to taking care of people that have been evacuated from their home, to now starting the process of recovery.
