I’ve just acquired a complete set of the insanely beautiful King Penguin books, published between 1939 and 1959. 76 in total, with cover illustration by some of the greatest designer-illustrators of their age. The set is in excellent condition. All dust jackets complete and clean. All first editions. Although there’s a lot of cross over between the artists featured in the series and my ‘day job’, selling these sort of books is not my main business. Troubadour, Old Brompton Road. A legendary coffee house and basement club operating since 1954. It served as a hub for Beat poets in the Jack Kerouac era, and its basement stage famously hosted early gigs for Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Charlie Watts, and Led Zeppelin.
