For 18 months, I was the only reporter in the world with this story. Because I'm good at my job. Say whatever you want about me... and you will. But I'm good at my job, and my outburst on Friday boils down to lingering resentment about not being "allowed" to be the best me that I can be by The Powers That Be. Hurt people hurt people, and I was certainly hurting last week. It manifested itself in ego and bravado. For people to turn that pain into something ugly is unfortunate, but to be expected in this day and age. Anyway, I broke this story and then spent 18 months being called a liar, a grifter, a fraud, etc. In the end, it turned out to be true. Tempe has turned off its Flock automated license plate reader system and will end its contract with the company. The cameras are no longer collecting license plate data, and Tempe will not seek another company to replace the system.
While the cameras have helped Tempe Police solve crimes, recent misuse of automated license plate reader systems in Arizona and nationwide has raised concerns about the risks that come with the technology.
Tempe Police has found no misuse of its own Flock system.
Flock will remove its cameras, and previously collected data will be automatically deleted after 30 days unless it is connected to an ongoing case or investigation.

I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it.
