Hugging Face just argued AI agents make the humans using them worse at their jobs. Here's what their paper found in plain English: The more your agent does, the less you do. You stop doing the work and start approving it. Over months that changes how you work: approving faster because you're tired of the process, trusting the agent over your own read and losing track of what's happening. Here's where this goes if nothing changes: We'll have a generation of people who can't do the work, approving output they can't judge, from systems trained to get past them. Humans plus AI beats either one alone, and the reason is the exact thing the paper describes losing. The agent can produce anything. But it cannot decide what's worth producing, what's true and what your customer actually needs. That judgment is yours. It came from years of doing the work, and we can't afford to hand it over. Want to lose your IQ? Automate everything. Want to outperform everyone else? Keep doing enough of the work to keep your judgment sharp and read what you approve. LLMs don't think, you do.
