I keep saying this but, it needs repeating. We have youth sports all wrong.
Dr James Andrews- “Athletes ages 14-and-under should have a two-month break with no organized leagues or intense training, Three to four would be better. Do conditioning, flexibility and strength work."

Hannah bringing Monday heat! That's why we are so excited for the league deal with @UpperDeckHockey.
We sure would like to find Hannah so we can send her some goodies from our players and make sure she gets some of those new hockey cards.

Hey @TimHortons,
An 8-year-old named Hannah has an issue that she'd like to bring to your attention!
Young girls all over Canada deserve to see their idols on hockey cards as much as men - let's do better!

Hey @OHF, here’s an idea:
Instead creating a monopoly in minor hockey, why not engage with “non-sanctioned” leagues and help them with accreditation and sanctioning.
I would love the opportunity to show you what we are doing at @TOPsportsTO to make hockey a better place.
Important Reminder! 📢
The OHF has amended our Non-Sanctioned League Policy.
Changes come into effect TODAY September 10, 2021

.@OHFHockey, if we can strip away the politics and ego’s, I think you’ll find many of us “non-sanctioned” leagues follow the exact same rules you do, but are never given the chance to show you what we’re doing. Let’s create a solution.

For all those involved in youth sports, this past year was full of uncertainties and endless challenges. But through the ups and downs, a few silver linings emerged.

Kids are bursting w/unspent energy. Shutting down kids' sports is bad for health & mental health.
Dr. Watson: "truly documented transmission between athletes...I'm not aware of anything".
End this @MacLeodLisa & @fordnation! Let kids play sports!#onpoli

.@JohnTory @epdevilla New dividers to split the ice in half at North Toronto Arena. We want to have 10 skaters per side, change in different areas, completely separate groups, but your legislation is saying we can’t. 20,000 sq ft but only 10 people allowed. Why? Makes no sense.
We are paying out of pocket to provide a safe environment for kids to continue playing hockey, but the current rules are pushing more and more kids out of sports. The has to be a safe way to make this happen @JohnTory @epdevilla

Figure skating is allowed but no private lessons for hockey? Small-group training? Crazy.

Sports with individual competitors such as watersports, tennis, gymnastics and horse racing will be allowed to resume. Swimming pools, however, will remain closed.
Great initiative but such a missed opportunity to make this a free event. Open doors to those who can’t afford it, create new fans in a non-traditional market, give young girls a chance to meet bonafide female role model. Would cost peanuts to run compared to future revenue.

Debuting this spring, TOP Sports is proud to launch a competitive multi-sport model for youth in Toronto. The model will serve as the ultimate well-rounded sports experience, allowing kids to play three competitive sports, close to home, with no schedule conflicts! #TheOtherPath – at Toronto, Ontario

Average time of puck possession in a 60 min game under 1 min. Youth hockey 36 sec. Time on ice average? Under 20 in 60 minutes. Youth hockey 12 min. – at Reading, MA
If the NCAA Hky model of 35-40 games a year focusing on on/off ice practice/training works at all for player dev (it does), then the norm for kids shouldn't be 2x that in games, more travel, fewer practices.
(Inspired by @JeffLoVecchio comments at 32:00 this week's HTT pod)
Makes me laugh when we hear the Leafs are doing positional skills during their practices but youth hockey coaches still insist on doing static breakouts for an hour because "systems win games"...
#Leafs doing a split practice today focused on individual skill work. Defence on one pad with Barb Underhill, forwards and goalies on the other.
An interesting choice.
