Since we've already had two spontaneous threads on Zoroastrian museums of Yazd, I suppose I can't avoid mentioning Kerman's anthropological museum, their counterpart. I should note that I visited it 3 years ago, and these photos are from back then.

The historian Mahmoud Mahmoud originally went by the name Mahmoud Pahlavi, but when Reza Shah picked Pahlavi as his own last name, Mahmoud was forced to change his, and decided to repeat his first name instead. He wrote an 8 volume history of British Iranian political relations.
I'm not sure if the question is being asked in jest or seriously but - Last names are a fairly new concept for Iranians. Before people had a name and then usually a title based on where they came from, their tribe, or rank. So when Reza Shah (who later overthrew the Qajars and started his own dynasty) was born, he was known as Reza Savadkoohi (Reza from Savadkooh, an area in Mazandaran). When he first entered the military he became known as Reza Maxim (he was trained on a maxim gun, which was a big deal then). As he went up in the ranks he was Reza Khan and Reza Mirpanj (names of different ranks). Finally after the coup and all the drama and events that happened, when he decided to found a new dynasty, he chose the name "Pahlavi" based on the name of the ancient script (undoubtedly as a part of his larger ideological project of emphasizing Iran's pre-Islamic heritage). And then early in his rule as a part of modernization efforts he made in mandatory for all Iranians to get last names, so everyone had to make up something. And the race of goldsmiths became Talakoubnejads.

German Foreign Minister Wadephul: Enough is enough! Iran and the Houthis are holding the global economy hostage with their attacks on international shipping. They are responsible for the destabilization of the Middle East, for humanitarian crises in Yemen, and for food crises in the Global South.

Let's say they actually believe this. What would they realistically have to do to make the IR give up in 3 days? Nuke Tehran and land half a million troops in Abadan?
"Some US planners are convinced that an intensive three-day campaign could cause enough economic damage to change the Iranian position." You would think they'd have stopped making these kinds of predictions eight months into what was supposed to be a four-or-five-week war nytimes.com/2026/10/21/us/po…

I’d like to thank my Uzbek brothers for making Rubio praise the most quintessentially Persianate city just a week after his Athens diatribe against the Persians.
Few places on Earth have historically played such an important role in global trade and commerce as Samarkand. It’s an honor to be here today — not just to remember the history, but the opportunities for the future.

Theophrastus on the Toranj
The bitter one is also called Narenj in Iran. Those (and the citron/Toranj) have been cultivated in South/Central/West Asia for milennia. The sweet one was bred later and imported by the Portugese.

The funniest part of this is that the word "orange" itself (as well as the Portugese laranja) came from the Persian نارنگ.

The greatest liability of Iranian monarchism as an institutional diaspora force (and one suspects a major reason that Trump never took them seriously) is not illiberalism per se but the insatiable factionalism you see in episodes like this NUFDI-Prosperity Project schism. This culture of paranoid delusion where all political differences are litigated as conspiratorial accusations may exhaust and dispirit foes but will also come home to roost within your own ranks, all the more ferociously after insurrection and regime change war have failed.

These accounts are always funny because if they actually believed in Republican administration, they'd live in Mississippi or West Virginia instead of *checks notes*... Europe.
🇺🇸✌️🇮🇷 #KingRezaPahlavi‌ForIran #I_Vote_Republican
