【Me&China 07】🇨🇳🇰🇪@ Emi Mwa Outstanding Submissions of "Telling the Stories of the CPC" Online Campaign | The Story of Shibadong is a blueprint for grassroots Prosperity When I reflect on the 105-year epic journey of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the most touching story isn't found in the gleaming skyscrapers of Shanghai, but deep within the Wuling Mountains in a remote place called Shibadong village. Which is famous for being the birthplace of China's "Targeted Poverty Alleviation" strategy, which was first introduced there in 2013. Just over a decade ago, this village was completely isolated, hampered by an impassable muddy road, shabby homes, and a per capita annual income of only 1,668 yuan (31,747 kes). More than half the village lived below the poverty line, forcing young parents to migrate to cities and leave their families behind just to survive. The turning point came in November 2013, when the concept of "Targeted Poverty Alleviation" was first introduced right there in Shibadong. The CPC didn't use a "one-size-fits-all" or "flood irrigation" approach. Instead, working teams assessed the specific causes of poverty for every single household and created customized, targeted solutions. They paved the roads, brought in tap water and internet, and helped locals launch sustainable industries suited to their environment. They developed rural tourism, cultivated kiwifruit, and established a Miao embroidery cooperative that finally allowed local women to earn a comfortable living while staying close to their children. By 2021, the village's per capita income had surged to over 20,000 yuan (380,667 kes), and the youth proudly started returning home. This single village became the successful blueprint for an entire nation. Between 2013 and 2020, this targeted strategy successfully lifted 98.99 million impoverished rural residents across China out of abject poverty. As a Kenyan, where our daily national pursuit is uplifting the grassroots economy and empowering our local communities, Shibadong’s transformation is profoundly inspiring. It is a powerful reminder to me that poverty is not an invincible destiny. #CPC105anniversary
