We reached new heights (I had to :) ) with our recent work on alien plants in South Africa’s mountains. Most mountain ranges have poor records of the alien plants present and so the true extent of invasion is often unknown.
New! ⛰️:
CBC members (@KimCanavan3, @Guy_F_Sutton and Grant Martin) and collaborators recently published in the journal Land’s Special Issue ‘Mountains under Pressure’ exploring the alien plants that threaten South Africa’s mountain ecosystems.

The CBC is facing a funding crisis, as our tender for biocontrol research has not yet been awarded. We have started a crowdfunding campaign for the work we do at Hartbeespoort Dam, and we would value your support, and sharing of our campaign.

Fear no weevil! We are excited that the common salvinia weevil, Cyrtobagous salviniae, is now in our CBC quarantine facility - all the way from the USA! We have already set up experiments to test its host specificity. Photo: David Taylor, CBC.
A project we have been working on for the last few years is now published :) We plan to keep the prioritised list of potential new biocontrol targets updated with relevant research. Looking forward to getting feedback and improving the list as we go!

Feel so sick about yesterday’s news.
We’re all so used to that feeling. Instead of grabbing your keys or trying to fumble around dialing 999 make sure your phone is enabled for this

First time back doing field work since I had Kara. We are looking for potential biocontrol agents on Eragrostis curvula with @Guy_F_Sutton. Loving being back in the fields and now I even have a little assistant!

Poor through the lens picture but today yielded another Tetramesa spp. from our grass-insect surveys. This is the 8th species I have found in South Africa, despite no known native species in Southern Africa. #hymenoptera #eurytomidae #biocontrol #treasuretrove #speciesdiscovery
