People acting like Street Fighter is failing when it’s underperforming by blockbuster standards. This isn’t failure. It shows how Street Fighter (though popular in the gaming community) is still niche in a niche genre. $80M in 10 days shows there is potential for a bigger future.

Street Fighter has done $80M worldwide and is actually tracking comparably to 2004s Hellboy, which didn’t break even. The studio lost $30-$40M and still made a sequel. The ancillary market changes terms of profitability.

STREET FIGHTER bombed harder than expected on its 2nd weekend, dropping an insane -72% for a $46M domestic total. Holding a budget of $82M, it’s expected to lose Paramount over $50M.

Fun Fact. Chun-Li is the first female character in a fighting game but she was almost excluded from Street Fighter II in 1991 because she was a Woman. Did I mention #StreetFighter is the greatest movie ever made?😌

I stand corrected. I was born in the 80s and I’d never heard of Typhoon Gal until today 👀 But she does predate Chun-Li from 1985!

If Street Fighter was just 2 hours of nothing but Guile, it would’ve been a 10/10

Watched #StreetFighter a 2nd time and when I really looked at it through the lens of an arcade fighting game translated to film, it’s very much a 10/10. Even the ending is perfect in that sense. This is actually the most spectacular use of all the pieces on the board. Bravo.

I know everyone always says the Street Fighter 2 anime is the best Street Fighter film but I disagree. It’s great but the new film utilizes all the characters far better than the anime does imo. The new film REALLY loves Street Fighter characters.

I get that this take on Cammy is a lil different but she’s still valid. Best Bison Girl 💙

FILM REVIEW: Street Fighter is a pure Hadouken to the senses—loud, ridiculous, campy, and mad fun. Kitao Sakurai’s live-action take on Capcom’s classic doesn’t chase prestige. Set in 1993, it throws estranged fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) back into the ring when Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. #StreetFighter #NoahCentineo #AndrewKoji #StreetFighterRyu #StreetFighterKen Photo Credits: Paramount Pictures

#StreetFighter is a beautiful, chaotic, heartfelt, meticulously and lovingly assembled mess. I truly loved it despite some of it story flaws. It’s full of characters that you enjoy watching and fights that will put a smile on your face. See it with someone you love❤️
