Jesus Christ Amends. "He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities" (Isaiah 53:5) Usually the person who did the wrong is the one who has to make amends. Here it's the other way around. He never owed anything, and He paid all of it anyway. The wound in His hand belongs to my mistakes, not His. And He didn't pay grudgingly or from a distance. He put His hand right on the page, where the debt was heaviest, and let it be fastened there. When I can't fix what I've broken, He already has. That gives me the courage to try to make it right with the people I've hurt, too.
