NEW BOXREC RULE IN THAILAND SPARKS SHIFT TO FIGHTFAX FOR OFFICIAL RECORDS
Kris admin:
Promoters and matchmakers across Thailand are preparing a unified response to newly implemented policies by BoxRec, which significantly affect the recognition of fights involving foreign boxers.
Under the new rule, bouts featuring foreign fighters will only be officially recorded if they are sanctioned as 10- or 12-round title fights. This policy has raised serious concerns within the local boxing community, as it limits opportunities for developing fighters and increases the financial burden on promoters.
In response, the Promoters, Managers, and Matchmakers Association of Thailand is planning to hold a general meeting next week with key regulatory bodies, including the Professional Boxing Association of Thailand and the Thailand Boxing Commission. The meeting will take place at Rajadamnern Boxing Stadium, one of the country’s most iconic venues. These organizations serve as the primary oversight committees responsible for supervising all local and international boxing events in Thailand.
Amid these developments, FightFax has emerged as a reliable alternative, stepping in to ensure that both local and international bouts continue to be properly documented. FightFax is widely recognized by major international boxing organizations as an elite record-keeping body.
Promoters and managers have expressed their desire to continue working with both BoxRec and FightFax. However, they emphasize that the new BoxRec policy presents significant challenges, particularly in covering event costs associated with staging title fights. Without flexibility, many up-and-coming fighters training in Thailand may lose valuable opportunities to compete and advance their professional careers.
Crucially, the impact extends beyond foreign fighters. The policy also affects the development of Thailand’s domestic boxing scene. If local fighters are effectively limited to competing only against other Thai boxers under Thailand-specific conditions, it risks slowing their progression on the international stage. For a nation with a strong fighting tradition, meaningful development requires exposure to varied opposition and competitive structures beyond domestic constraints.
The situation is further complicated by global economic pressures and ongoing conflicts in certain regions, which have already impacted boxing activities in other countries.
As a result, industry stakeholders are seeking constructive dialogue with BoxRec to reach a balanced resolution. While they remain open to collaboration, they are also prepared to uphold established international boxing standards recognized by global governing bodies if necessary.
The upcoming meeting is expected to be a critical step toward finding a solution that benefits all parties involved. Promoters and managers remain hopeful that their formal appeal will lead to a fair and progressive outcome for the future of boxing in Thailand.

- Orlando Salido made for great fights. One of the best boxers to fight with his back against the ropes.
- Back 10-12 years ago, beIN Sports en Español would either have showcase fights or well-matched fights, like this one. #boxing #boxeo @KnuckleheadSean
