Some of the world's most important trade routes are also among the hardest to monitor.
@Airbus and Kpler have signed a strategic agreement to deliver daily satellite vessel detection, providing customers with the ability to verify vessel movements independently of #AIS.
The timing matters.
Dark vessel activity, AIS manipulation and GNSS interference can create significant gaps in the conventional maritime picture. AIS is mandated by the IMO and remains the backbone of #vessel reporting, visibility and safety across the shipping industry, with Kpler's network capturing billions of these signals every day. Satellite imagery adds a complementary layer, helping tell an area-wide disruption from deliberate evasion and identifying vessels that try to stay hidden.
Airbus' SPOT satellites will provide daily high resolution imagery, with advanced AI used to detect vessels both at sea and in port.
Together, these capabilities will provide a clearer and more reliable view of maritime activity, including vessels that may not be visible through AIS alone.
This partnership adds another powerful layer to how Kpler helps organisations understand how commodities, cargoes and vessels move around the world, so they can trade smarter.

📊 Asia’s stake in systematic flows: What CTA positioning means for commodity markets.
On 5th November, Andrea Santiago and Jack Nealon will unpack how systematic CTA positioning works and why it matters, with Ali Ramady moderating the live Q&A.
The session will also cover how CTA models generate signals and build positions in futures markets tied to Asian demand, how rule-based portfolios turn those signals into coordinated flows across #crude, #metals and #grains, and how positioning evolves through major macro events and commodity trends.
If you trade, manage risk or invest in Asian markets, this is the positioning view worth having before the next move.

Oil flows recover, but fuel shortages persist
Brent is trading at $108.50/bbl, with Strait of Hormuz crude flows averaging 10.1 mb/d over the past seven days. Despite improving flows, high freight rates, insurance costs and ongoing geopolitical tensions continue to pressure global #fuel supplies.

🚨 Is the global diesel market heading for a turning point?
The near-term outlook for gasoil is weakening as refinery maintenance comes to an end, Russian exports partially recover and demand remains under pressure.
However, upside risks persist, with renewed Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries adding uncertainty to the US-Russia diesel deal.

📉 Dubai crude spreads hit 6-month lows as Gulf exports recover.
Dubai spreads face further pressure as Gulf exports recover and Saudi OSP cuts make regional #crude more competitive. Dubai M1/M3 has fallen to $8/bbl, its lowest level in six months, although tanker attacks and record freight rates remain key risks to further downside.

⚠️ Sanctions relief unlikely to ease tanker crisis.
Washington’s reported plans to ease sanctions on #ShadowFleet tankers may do little to alleviate record freight rates. Of approximately 160 OFAC-sanctioned VLCCs, Kpler estimates that only 24 could potentially return to mainstream trade after accounting for vessel age and ownership restrictions.
With war risk, rather than vessel availability alone, driving freight costs in the Middle East Gulf, sanctions relief risks delivering limited commercial benefits while weakening geopolitical leverage.

🇨🇳 China’s crude imports are rising, but is it really restocking?
Despite record inventory drawdowns and increasing crude imports, China’s buying activity may not signal a return to stock-building. With higher Middle Eastern arrivals expected in October and Iranian supplies declining, China is looking to secure enough crude to support refinery runs while avoiding further inventory depletion.
Watch our latest Kpler Market Briefing as Amena Bakr and Matt Smith explores what’s driving Chinese crude demand and where its next barrels could come from.

Chinese oil demand supports Middle East
Chinese refiners are accelerating Middle Eastern crude purchases as record inventory drawdowns and recovering refinery activity strengthen demand for prompt supplies. According to Kpler, Chinese buyers have secured at least 80 million barrels of Saudi crude since mid-September. Meanwhile, China's onshore #crude inventories declined by approximately 1.6 million barrels per day in September, the fastest pace on record.
Refinery throughput is projected to reach 14.2 million barrels per day by December, increasing pressure to replenish stocks. Meanwhile, refiners also need to replace roughly 1 million barrels per day of Iranian supply as the US blockade remains in place. Stronger Chinese demand could limit further weakness in Dubai crude pricing, especially as escalating regional tensions continue to threaten supply flows.

⛽ Can tight octane markets keep gasoline prices supported through Q4?
Seasonal demand may be slowing, but tight octane supplies, geopolitical disruptions and historically low inventories are keeping #gasoline markets stronger than usual.
In Europe, low Rhine water levels and weak naphtha cracking margins continue to constrain aromatics supplies. Meanwhile, China's MTBE exports remain under pressure from tight #methanol and butane availability. Despite expectations of softer gasoline fundamentals heading into winter, Kpler analysts Ines Goncalves and Ciaran Tyler highlight why octane tightness could keep prices above typical seasonal levels and create further risks into 2027.

WTI Midland stays competitive as Atlantic freight surges
Freight has surged across the Atlantic Basin, with TD25 now close to WS1000. Even so, WTI Midland still screens competitively into Europe. A wider Brent-WTI spread is helping offset the freight hit, while tight European light sweet supply continues to support demand for US barrels. The bigger question is how long that can hold if freight stays this elevated and more Atlantic Basin supply starts competing for the same refinery demand.

Middle East oil flows are recovering, but the market isn’t back to normal yet.
Crude production and exports across Kuwait, Iraq and Saudi Arabia are moving closer to pre-conflict levels, while refined product loadings are also beginning to pick up.
But with flows still lagging and gasoil around $178/bbl, tightness remains.

Saudi Red Sea exports rebound
Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea crude export system is demonstrating renewed resilience after disruption to the East West Pipeline. Confirmed loadings from Yanbu and Muajjiz reached around 45 million barrels between 17 September and 4 October. Satellite imagery captured on 4 October showed two tankers berthed at Yanbu and three occupying all available berths at Muajjiz.
Operations have continued despite heightened regional security risks, while activity at Egypt’s Sidi Kerir signals a broader return of alternative routes for Asian buyers. The recovery strengthens Saudi Arabia’s ability to sustain crude flows while reducing reliance on more exposed maritime chokepoints.
