New study finds no clear physical advantage for transgender women over cisgender women in sports.
A major review challenges the claim that transgender women hold a clear physical edge in women’s sports.
After pooling results from 52 studies and thousands of participants, researchers in Brazil reported that transgender women had greater lean mass than cisgender women, but not greater physical capacity.
Across the data they examined, they found no meaningful differences in upper-body strength, lower-body strength, or aerobic fitness between the two groups after hormone therapy.
That does not settle the political fight. It does, however, narrow the scientific one.
The paper, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, reviewed research on body composition and physical fitness in transgender people receiving gender-affirming hormone therapy. In their analysis, they covered 6,099 individuals overall. This included 2,566 transgender women, 2,646 transgender men, 442 cisgender women and 445 cisgender men. Forty-two studies were included in the meta-analysis.
Transgender women, the central result was striking in its contrast. Lean mass remained higher than in cisgender women, yet the performance measures most often cited in sports arguments did not show an advantage.
“This refutes the logic behind blanket bans on transgender women in sports,” said Bruno Gualano, a physician and researcher at the University of São Paulo in Brazil who co-authored the study. “Most of these policies are based on the assumption that transgender women retain inherent physical advantages and would therefore dominate women’s competitions. The data does not support this idea.”
The review found that transgender women had higher absolute lean mass than cisgender women, but similar relative lean mass.
It found no significant differences in upper-body strength, lower-body strength, or maximum oxygen consumption, a standard measure of cardiorespiratory fitness.
The authors also looked at how hormone therapy changed the body over time. In transgender women, one year of therapy was associated with increased fat mass, reduced lean mass, and lower upper-body strength. Over one to three years, the pattern pointed in the same direction, though not every measure could be tracked across every time span.
The paper argues that this matters because sports rules often treat muscle mass as a stand-in for performance. The new review suggests that assumption may be too simple.

A cisgender male and a trans woman athlete who is on feminising hormone treatment or who has surgically transitioned like @Anaya_Bangar has cannot be equated.
Trans women athletes are physiologically different from male athletes, hence why I believe the basis of any blanket ban policy is flawed.
The research shows the physical fitness of transgender and cisgender women is comparable.
The most comprehensive synthesis to date, a 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis (Sieczkowska et al., British Journal of Sports Medicine) of 52 studies and 6,485 participants, shows:
1- That there is no significant difference in lean body composition or upper and lower body strength between cis women and trans women after 1-3 years of hormone treatment.
2- There are also no differences in cardiorespiratory fitness between cis women and trans women.
3- Therefore, there is no evidence that trans women are stronger or have greater muscle mass or endurance, as has been suggested in the public debate.
4- Furthermore, in comparisons between trans women undergoing hormone treatment and cis men, trans women do have lower results in terms of lean mass, upper and lower body strength, and cardiometabolic performance than cis men.
5- Trans men do have greater strength and muscle mass than cis women, but they do not reach the values achieved by cis men.
6- Although the review has some limitations, such as the lack of studies on elite athletes and the lack of studies on specific sports events, it gives us two clear messages:
1- There is no evidence to support the claims that trans women have greater strength and endurance than cis women, and that exposure to testosterone prior to hormone treatment in trans women does not lead to better physical conditions for sport.
2- Therefore, contrary to the opinion that trans women should not compete in the female category, this systematic review shows us that there is no scientific justification for this discrimination in a single female sport.

Raising a Rainbow Pride Flag signals a clear educational, commemorative and educational purpose and an important message of safety and inclusion.
I encourage all schools and educational institutions to do so. Just like the Parliament of Canada does each June. 🌈🇨🇦
Starting January 4, every school in Alberta will proudly fly both the Canadian and Alberta flags, and any other flags will only be temporarily displayed when they serve a clear educational, commemorative or community purpose.
Let’s teach our children to celebrate our amazing country and province.

Even the questions that “passed” — the five that targeted immigrants for punitive measures — did so with less than what you might call a “clear” majority. The best-performing was the one calling, entirely needlessly, for proof of citizenship when voting, with a projected 58 per cent.

Gerrymandering is unconstitutional: The Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees all Canadians “effective representation,” which prevents governments from diluting specific people’s voting power simply because they disagree.
Debunking more myths.
Low bone density in trans girls is not due to puberty or T blockers; it is mostly attributed to the extremely low levels of sports participation that they partake in. Only 12% of trans girl youth participate in an organised sport compared to 68% of non trans kids.
Bone density varies greatly from each individual based on nutrition, sex, age, & race.
African-Americans have higher bone densities than Caucasians & Hispanic people. Bone structure also varies greatly by individuals based on genetics.
What does this mean? –
Everybody has different bone densities and structures and there is simply too much variation to exclude someone trans or cis solely on the bases of that measurement.
In summary, in this it is important to note that no one biological marker can be used as a proxy for the complex set of advantages and disadvantages that is attributed to individual performance.
As a result, bodies (both cis and trans) must be looked at in a holistic way, and that their performance is a result of many interactive systems social and biological and not just the sum of discrete biological components.
We should also note that outside of sports with defined weight categories, weight and height are not considered to be an unfair advantage, rather taking positions as examples of tolerable unfairness.
This is despite height being highly predictive of not just lean body mass, but also in measuring maximal torque. The increased lever length attributed to skeletal frame (height) accounts for significant levels of the variation measured for both men and women.
It is important to note that both male and female muscle mass are the same strength when comparing equivalent cross-sectional size or mass and total mass and cross section size both increase with height for both cis-men and cis-women.
