Sauna Season Coming!!
Few years back I learned how to properly ventilate the sauna.
Anyone remember this? hahah
This was a whole debacle. First, I didn’t give the sauna a proper run time to burn off the oils from the manufacturer, which led me to think I had an allergic reaction to cedar.
That wasn’t the case...
That shot me into learning more about sauna ventilation, getting CO2 detectors, and doing testing myself
Few years later and countless hours and sessions later, I can say these findings were productive.
Some would even say I have the best ventilated sauna on this side of the Mississippi.
Here’s how to properly ventilate you electric sauna:
Pusher fan a few feet above the sauna stove. Set on the LOWEST setting.
Puller fan at feet on the opposite side of the sauna. Set on medium.
.....Heat rises......
Pusher fan pushes heat away from the stove.
Puller fan at feet pulls hot air down.
This creates a more even heat across the whole sauna. And it LOWERED my CO2 readings by a few hundred PPM (though I am skeptical of the overall accuracy of the detector). Directionally, the CO2 levels improved dramatically.
You can tell when you’re in it as well. It’s obvious there’s more fresh air and a more even heat across the sauna (floor to ceiling).
I got the fans off amazon and used dryer vent for running the air through. (pic below of the style of fan I got)
Sauna Saga… Continued
Added a pull blower fan (picture 1-2-3) this is on the opposite side of the electric heater.
Included:
-slide chamber to mitigate airflow.
-Damper valve on the hose.
-Hose ran to fan
-Hose ran to outside
Picture 4 is another slide chamber. Currently there is NO air flow being pushed into the sauna. By putting my hand over the hole I can feel ((some)) air coming in
Conclusion:
-Based on my CO2 reader I’m averaging 500-750ppm. this is much better than 900-1,200 prior to having the upgrading ventilation systems
I’m going to use the sauna a few times before considering adding a “pusher” fan.
If I do this- I see it being on a low setting- pushing fresh air into the TOP of the sauna (remember… HOT air rises) so push outside air into the bottom sauna will cause the air to sit at the bottom of the sauna
Then- I’ll keep the puller fan on top setting… pulling air DOWN and out of the sauna….
Overall- It feel* much less stuffy in the sauna. Thats a win!

You are the very last thing my brain processes before I drop off to sleep, and the absolute first entity my hand reaches out to find when the sun comes up. You have become my mind's natural state of rest.
