AI people have such a nihilistic view of the future, yet I never hear them propose ways to cope. Like, if ASI is really coming and white collar work is ending, shouldn't we be forming intergovernmental taskforces to develop a plan to restructure society in response? Very weird.
You might have 1โ5 years to contribute intellectually to the world before AGI. What should you do with them?
Excellent advice from @jaschasd (Anthropic) at Stanford. Skip Netflix tonight and watch this instead.
it's so crazy how immediately discernible American-born Chinese people are from actual Chinese people. Two completely different cultures and value systems.
This deserted street is at the center of Boston University, which is supposed to have about 40 thousand students. Most are nowhere to be found.
The students you do see all look completely miserable. Everyone is foreign- not just in origin but in the world they inhabit. Virtually, she is far away- China, Valhalla, the moon, It wouldnโt matter. itโs not the phone that transports her, itโs her head thatโs in the clouds. And she is all of us.
Decades ago, this part of campus had the best parties. Now, unfriendly strivers in fantasy worlds. A Tower of Babel, and the split is more than superficially linguistic
this feels like the next Theranos in the making, except nobody will go to jail because it's just white dudes
JUST IN: A California space startup has illuminated a section of desert near Mount Whitney at night, demonstrating how future satellites could deliver sunlight to Earth on demand.
Reflect Orbital conducted the October 10 test using powerful ground-based spotlights to simulate sunlight redirected from orbit by large reflective mirrors.
Working with China Lake Mountain Rescue, the company illuminated terrain across roughly three miles, allowing rescue teams to conduct nighttime searches, stretcher carries and other emergency-response exercises.
Reflect Orbital ultimately wants to deploy satellites capable of directing sunlight toward specific areas on Earth after sunset, potentially supporting emergency operations and extending electricity generation at solar farms.
The company received FCC authorization in July for its first experimental satellite, Eรคrendil-1, which will use an 18-meter reflector to test the concept from orbit.
The October demonstration used ground-based lighting. No orbital mirror has yet demonstrated the proposed capability.
