For International Day of Solidarity, I decided to share a wood slice ornament I painted. Hereβs hoping for a world without military occupation and apartheid, one where Palestinians are free. π΅πΈ π

When you participate in describing an ongoing health threat as a past event, this influences what the public considers reasonable to worry about and whose ongoing experiences are recognized as legitimate.
This is especially true if you are in a position of perceived expertise.

The left is riddled with ableism. If you see this post, I implore you to be more considerate of disabled people and disability in general. No βCOVID-conscious lesbian barβ or βbisexual with POTSβ jokes.
Theyβre not funny. Theyβre inherently right-wing.
Check yourselves.

Replying to @missphavin
Like instead of mocking disabled ppl letβs just aim for a system that would be better for all of us
But then I guess ppl couldnβt chuckle it up with fellow ableists
As a California voter, it is incredibly tiring to see our electorate veto important propositions. I really wish our state was the socialist utopia described by conservatives. π

a subtle form of COVID denialism I encounter (and that I've previously perpetuated) is blaming any uptick in illnesses solely on trauma and stress
stress and trauma can definitely affect physical health
and so can poorly-mitigated viruses that impact multiple body systems
A reminder that anti-Blackness exists on a global level. And people should educate themselves on the specific historical context of minstrel shows and Blackface, rather than bending over backwards to defend that VA.

Thank you to all of the courageous people out there who continue to mask, even when itβs not the popular choice!
Oh, weβre interjecting.
Itβs every bit as annoying when people keep past-tensing an ongoing pandemic - doing the narrative dirty work of those who would prefer to erase the widespread consequences of short-term economy-driven choices.

it is so annoying when people use the phrase "during the pandemic"

Do you ever think about how many lives could have been saved if we had focused on cleaning the air and not surfaces when it comes to airborne viruses like the flu, RSV, and COVID?
Clean indoor air can save so many lives

Healthcare and capitalism cannot coincide. Any system that values profit over people will be rooted in pure eugenics.
Can corporations stop shoving genAI into everything? I really donβt want to experience triple digit autumns. π
Iβm not sure why people are surprised John Cook supports Trump. Heβs an older white man from the greater San Diego area. π

Key takeaway this week: do not trust reporters with disability related topics who dont have disability beats or community trust. Theyll do ableist harm to you and to the disabled community at large. Ableism is the status quo, dont be surprised when ppl lean in for $

"do you expect people to wear masks forever"
yes, actually, with the way things are going

The venn diagram btw leftists who:
- Believe that forced institutionalization and eugenics in the 1900s was bad
And
- Do not want disabled people in public spaces demanding access
Is basically just an overlapping circle at this point.

Something I have learned about ableism by being disabled is abled-bodied people are not owed a lack of disruption. The desire to live undisrupted by disabled people is eugenics. Disrupted bodies and minds have an absolute right to exist freely.
And yet, the overwhelming majority of our prominent researchers, politicians, and institutional leaders are failing to model responsible mitigation, demonstrating a shocking lack of self-preservation, professional responsibility, and community care.
