(5 Pillars of Storytelling Movie Pitch from Magic to Science. 🪄 🧪) The recent military-style takes are understandable, but the version that still holds for a lot of readers sits between the original Lion suit and Alan Davis’s redesign ('quaint Lion' and hopeless spandex romantics that we are...), with the Special Executive, Earth-238, Mad Jim Jaspers, and the Fury (even the 'X' carousel can't contain ALL the concepts ergo? 'Captain Britain Theme Month...') The Crooked World material is dense enough that a real adaptation would probably need more than a single film - the reality-warping, the Omniversal bureaucracy, Captain UK / Linda McQuillan’s arc after Rick’s death and the Fury’s adaptive threat all have room to breathe across a trilogy or a focused multi-part story. No Captain Britain on the third cover 😳, so the big Alan Davis ensemble does the work of introduction instead - the whole cast drawn in that 'Brit Grit' Noir...clean, confident line that made the new costume feel inevitable. Inside #3 the twins meet in the London restaurant. Brian taller, stronger. Betsy already the purple-haired telepath. The change is quiet and total. She tells him about S.T.R.I.K.E. and the Vixen’s people. The page (desaturated here so it sits closer to the black-and-white we first read) still feels like the moment the book stopped being just his story. Then #4. Not the splash. The sizing-up. Slaymaster reading the force field, finding the single square centimetre, the nerve centre. "It is a ninja trick." Pure Moore - the fight already over before the first real contact, the psychology doing the damage. The new suit looks immaculate and still permeable. That was the point.
