We condemn in the strongest terms the arrest of my friends Mahmoud Muna and Ahmad Muna, Palestinian booksellers and owners of Jerusalem’s Educational Bookshop, by Israel’s occupation authorities.
The arrests of Mahmoud and Ahmad is a stark reminder of the ongoing campaign to censor knowledge, stifle free speech and information that challenges Israel’s occupation of Palestine and in this case, Israel’s illegal colonial occupation of #Jerusalem and its oppressive measures in the city. Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of all just societies. There is no genuine peace without the freedom to read, and no freedom to read without booksellers able to carry out their work in safety.
We stand firm in our support of Mahmoud and Ahmad Muna, and all Palestinian detainees, and call on our colleagues and partners in the international community, including the publishing industry and the book trade, in the U.K. and beyond, to join us in calling for their immediate release.

🚨 Statement from NHS Workers Say NO!
ALT As health workers we have been devastated to witness the recent riots across the country, motivated by the racist, Islamophobic and anti-migrant rhetoric of the far right, which has for too long been allowed to filter into mainstream discourse. We are clear that the NHS relies on a diverse workforce, including many migrants, and celebrate their valuable contribution to our society. We have been utterly appalled to see attacks on our own NHS colleagues. We call on fellow healthcare workers to offer support to patients and colleagues who may be increasingly vulnerable at this time. We congratulate the BMA on their strong stance condemning racism and fascism, and encouraging members to organise to keep their communities safe. We now urge our other health unions to follow suit and take active steps to stand up to racism and fascism within our communities. Allowing these ideas to flourish only compromises the safety of those we seek to protect.

Michael Phelps is literally referred to as a freak of nature because of his disproportionate wingspan, double jointed ankles, lung capacity twice that of an average human, body that produces half the lactic acid of a typical athlete, and he is rightly celebrated for being the greatest male swimmer in history. Meanwhile, female athletes with genetic differences are legally discriminated against and harassed to no end. This is not about “protecting women in sports” - this is about protecting a very specific idea of what a woman is.
