TOR has no trouble scoring, but have already given up points in three different games (0-2-1) with four goals scored through the first 15 GP.
That can't happen at that frequency. In fact, it probably should almost never happen.
He had been mediocre (and overhated as a result) to this point, and expectations above mediocre are completely fair to have for your $7M goalie.
He let them down tonight.
I have not and probably will never defend TOR's goaltending transactions this summer, but I have defended Bob's start to the year at times (pretty average & would ideally be better).
A back-breaking 4th goal after the obligatory three gets no defense. Routine save needed there
Evans getting his stick "slashed" out of his hands as the last man back feels equivalent to embellishment or is at least incredibly soft.
You're the last guy back... battle, man. Kind of trash, but I get why a ref is compelled to call it.
This type of goal being called weak is incorrect. What Gridin does here is a world-class snipe
He's moving pretty quick & picks it. Superstars wouldn't replicate this at a high % put in that scenario and many don't even shoot here
Sometimes NHL players snipe. Big news, I know
Perfectly placed pass, perfectly placed shot 👌
Matvei Gridin gets the @NHLFlames on the board first!
No goalie would be standing upright against their post in 2026, as they wouldn't be well-prepared for any other play possibility.
This is less of a Bob error, and just taking advantage of the situation perfectly when the split-second to rip it opened. It's a high-end finish.
The automatic 3 goals past Bobrovsky needs to stop.
That being said, probably not as an applicable of a point to make last night. Those were some snipes. More concerned about how easily the opponent gets to those locations and is able to get a clean shot off.
Been highlighted in the thread, and is logical, for TOR to take a higher AAV expring player back to help the tagging issue.
Some options:
Brendan Dillon $4M
Barclay Goodrow $3.64M
Ilya Lyubushkin $3.25M (=)
Nino Niederreiter $4M
Andrei Kuzmenko $5M
Kirby Dach $3.6M
In fairness to OEL and the D core, I think you are seeing some stabilization from him and others that definitely allows them to avoid bandaid adds, as intended
The idea is to tangibly improve, which technically opens a scenario where they could end up getting nothing done.
Dakota Joshua's LTI conditioning loan will have been extended if he's in the Marlies lineup today or on the roster still - 3 GP already & been there > 6 days
Curious how this plays out.
I think there would have been far more urgency to get him on L3 if he was truly in the plans
This
He's been worth it & hasn't even scored yet. He's played a lot of minutes with good results
I wouldn't call him a stud #1 D, but he can be on your top pair. I think he's being underrated by anyone implying otherwise. That contract "risk" couldn't have come at better timing
Somehow his biggest single season development jump might be coming in his second NHL season.
What a guy
I wasn't some massive Cowan truther calling it excellent value at #28 on draft day, but I wasn't a hater. I could see the vision. These were some of my draft day takes on the pick:
It might be a double digit AAV
Hunt did not get through waivers - claimed by NSH
The point stands that it's worthwhile to complete this trade format one more time to get to 48/50 SPCs. Ideally it's specifically for probably Tverberg + Webber/Myers and can be done for any ~'02 F or LHD who is capable NHL depth
I think it's important to look at how TOR's prospect pool is positioned to see where their leverage is when looking at how they can assemble a futures-based package.
This screenshot projects out a '27-28 Marlies roster with signed players, RFA's & prospects with expiring rights.
There are a lot of C prospects competing and a lot of RHD.
Generically speaking, they could probably do something like Koblar, McWard (tagging), Avs 1st, mid picks (because they made 10 selections in 2026) for a Top 4 D; really fill a need and not significantly feel the loss.
