I’m so thrilled to share that our Green Initiatives Advisory Committee was awarded a Lake Simcoe Watershed Heroes Award in the Healthy Communities category last evening! 🌿 Together, we’re working on important initiatives, including: ♻️ Lake Simcoe Phosphorous Recycling Facility: Spearheaded this state-of-the-art facility, which will prevent 2.5 to 15 tonnes of phosphorus from entering Lake Simcoe each year, significantly improving water quality. 🌳 Tree Planting and Conservation: Planted over 5,000 trees, enhancing green spaces and improving air quality within Bradford. 🚮 Stormwater Management and Litter Trap Program: Implemented a litter-trap program to retrofit older stormwater basins, preventing litter and pollutants from entering the Holland River. 🌲 Riverfront Trail Expansion: Secured donations of riverfront land to eventually create public access to the Holland River, promoting sustainable outdoor recreation. ❄️ Snow Storage and Filtration Facility: Developed a facility that removes contaminants from snow runoff before it enters the Holland River, improving local water quality. 🌳 Public Tree Protection Bylaw: Created a bylaw to protect publicly owned trees in parks and municipal boulevards, preserving the town’s natural canopy. 💡 Energy-Efficient Buildings: Incorporated energy-efficient lighting and heating into the renovation of the Lions Park Youth Centre and the new 177 Church St community centre, reducing utility costs and environmental impacts. 🚍 Public Transit Master Plan: Approved an ambitious plan that will significantly expand services in the coming years, with work currently underway to add new routes, buses and more accessible transit options for residents, all for just $1. 🌎 Climate Change Mitigation Master Plan: Ongoing work to develop a plan for Bradford, aiming to integrate sustainability into future development and infrastructure projects. ♻️ Environmental Advocacy: We’ve also pushed for a Right to Repair electronics and agricultural equipment, and for improvements to recycling programs. #onpoli #cdnpoli
