The approval of Jackdaw will not lower our household energy bills, nor will it make us more resilient in the face of climate breakdown.
It will however, further damage trust in democracy, as ‘no new oil and gas' was promised just 2 years ago.
If the Government approve Rosebank too, this will only signal an end to the ambition for a green transition.
I cannot support this.

Approving the drilling of Jackdaw is the wrong decision on every front.
It won't bring down bills, it creates barely any jobs, and it undermines our climate commitments.
True energy security comes from rapidly expanding homegrown renewables, not continuing our reliance on volatile fossil fuels. The idea that we need more drilling to fund them is exactly what the fossil fuel lobby wants us to believe.

Today in Parliament, I raised my deep disappointment at the decision to approve Jackdaw.
I also made clear that the Government must not repeat this mistake with Rosebank.

I signed this important letter opposing new oil and gas licences.
Today’s Jackdaw decision expands costly, insecure energy and boosts fossil fuel profits.
It won't bring down household bills.
The Government must think again before Rosebank.
Don’t repeat the same mistake.
If they are “our resources”, why don’t *we* own them?
The UK Government must set out exactly how Jackdaw will reduce bills, protect jobs and increase energy security - given the opposite was true under decades of licence approvals to such private companies.

Fantastic to stand alongside our Comrade, Cllr Katrina Faccenda during her speech at the @SUTRScotland rally in Edinburgh today.
Katrina is at the front of her community’s fight against the far right. Exactly where Labour members and representatives should be.

It’s a stain on all Scots that the Scottish Government has included a company named in the United Nations Human Rights database as being involved in activities connected with illegal Israeli settlements, in the search for future trains provision for Scotland.

Our energy officer rang the entire energy industry to ask one question.
Every large energy company in Britain recognises a union. One doesn't. 🐙
@OctopusEnergy seems like a good time to talk.
A circular argument from the Circular Economy Minister who has told @SPClimateAction that increased monitoring of sewage overflows is "a waste of money"
Ms Martin claims it would mean monitoring overflows that "have never overflowed"
How does she know, if they aren't monitored?

When a woman is described as “rude, overbearing and arrogant” somewhere a man is being praised for being direct, assertive and confident.
Whatever the issues in that office, they won’t be resolved through media briefings like this.

The Scottish Government’s announcement of an increase in CARES funding to £15 million for community energy is a welcome step forward.
But let’s be entirely honest: a £15 million budget boost is a tiny plaster on a massive systemic wound.
