Was literally explaining the, "society falls when old men don't plant trees they will never sit under" to my neighbor (boomer)
He said he didn't get it and why would he plant trees if won't be around to see them

西方民主只不过是在一群演员中选出演技最好的演员。西方民主制度的两大漏洞:1.只在选演员的过程中民主,而不是在具体决策中民主,2.智者和傻逼的投票权平等,而且傻逼在人数上有绝对优势

United States government debt

Now: $40.5 trillion

The US National Debt has now increased by over $1.1 trillion since July 1st.
The Federal Government is borrowing from our future to spend money like drunken sailors today.
Everything they said about "cutting spending" and "balancing the budget" was a lie.

97% of US homeowners with a mortgage now have a rate below today’s market rate, per the Economist.
In 2022, it was just 54%.
That’s why the housing market is frozen: almost no one wants to sell and give up a cheap mortgage for one above 7%.

Agree.
The amount of people who come to the same conclusion about where AI leads, all from different fields and life experiences, is concerning.
I am yet to hear a single logical and coherent argument as to why the below will be wrong.
A civilization in which the poor live more comfortably but have almost no realistic prospect of becoming powerful, independent or exceptionally successful through their own merits is not a superior civilization - it is the death of meritocracy in service of mediocrity under the banner of efficiency. Why would anyone bother trying to become the best at anything? There is no point.
A machine can do it better so it's not economically viable to do anything other than own the compute that powers that machine, meaning even if you're really good at it, it won't do anything for you - class positions becomes entrenched, with no amount of effort or talent being enough to transcend them if you're on the wrong side of that line, because the market will stop rewarding your talents.
Millions upon millions of people who define themselves by their jobs will be left purposeless. Most of humanity will be a serf class collecting welfare with no incentive to be brilliant or excellent or bother with anything, and will drive themselves mad descending into infinite leisure.
I want to be wrong about this. But I don't think I am. After all the condescension of the flawed analogy between the car replacing the horse, and then the cope about adapting by keeping a human in the loop and augmenting your workflow, only to end up at "so yeah you were right actually you will be made obsolete" is just fucking wild.

terrible day for people who are not good at stuff
FYI: In the next couple weeks virtually every AI service will have a built in invisible watermark in text that will flag anything as AI generated no matters the way in which you use it. What this means is that if you use AI to even check for spelling errors or grammar your entire document will be flagged as AI and invalidated. This is going to create a whole heap of problems for people as we enter the Salem Witch Trials of AI accusations. As of now we believe ChatGPT in the US is still cuck free but pretty much all of the AI companies in Europe are cooked. Maybe someone in the comments can provide the exact list.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
OpenAI watermarks ChatGPT text only in the EU; Anthropic marks newer Claude models worldwide; Gemini has used SynthID since 2024. The marks are only in AI-written text, weaken with editing, and detector access is restricted.
