This evolution has led to an overall desire to replace individualized patient care with algorithms. At one time, anecdotal information from the bedside was considered real clinical evidence. That’s gone now. The divide between healthcare and patients has widened for decades — we are expendable, and the decline is called unavoidable. They are the miracle. They are the control. They are the givers and takers of life. They are the g-ds. And when a whole profession starts worshipping its own authority instead of submitting to a higher one, patients become case numbers, protocols become scripture, and anyone who questions the orthodoxy gets treated like a heretic.
