Oystercatcher Green A22, originally ringed @LaneMarsh on 13/06/2019, has just been spotted 90km away in Whixall (16/02/2026).
Six years on and still telling a story, one set of colour rings at a time. 💚

✨ Barn Owls are just magical!
Last night on Packington Estates, Solihull we re-caught a ringed bird, turns out it was one we’d ringed as a chick just 2km away @LaneMarsh in 2023. 💫 Wonderful to see it thriving and staying local! 🦉💛 #BarnOwl

Fantastic news! A Nightjar was ringed at @LaneMarsh last night, just a stone’s throw from Birmingham Airport ✈️. That makes 6 in 4 years, all juveniles, highlighting a clear migration route for these elusive birds 🌙🪶. #Nightjar #BirdMigration

Sitting on the edge of Kroga geo @FI_Obs when I noticed brown blobs on the beach. A closer look revealed at least five Woodcock! Autumn migration on islands is just unbeatable.

I know this is daft but I really hate the formulation "another vote for x species" when discussing bird identification. As a birding political scientist, I really must insist that the logic of majoritarian democratic politics cannot and should not be transposed to bird ID.

So thats what the new scrapes look like at @LaneMarsh from a birds eye view👍
Scrapes are great wetland features - they create habitats for birds and water-loving invertebrates, and reduce flood risk.

A slightly larger image of the juv Little Stint at @LaneMarsh apparently the first for 2 or 3 years. The high wind and torrential rain made it difficult for digiscoping. I picked the bird up flying low across the Railway pool almost certainly brought down by the adverse weather👍

Stunning morning @LaneMarsh with good numbers of young warblers and Sand Martin ringed, along with this stunning Kingfisher. What an absolute privilege to be able to ring and monitor this species.
