Nice work @drtfitz_littleT!
On 21-11 Tania Sluckin obtained her doctoral degree by defending her thesis entitled "lateral lymph nodes in rectal cancer". This thesis stresses the importance of adequate treatment of lateral lymph nodes and the LaNoReC trial. Want to receive a PDF? Mail [email protected]
Lateral lymph nodes during the @ESSOnews 142 conference! On Thursday 26th of October the prognostic implications of the number of lateral lymph nodes and their malignant features were discussed.
The LaNoReC is currently recruiting in 13 centers and the first 7 patients have been included in the main arm, and another 5 patients have been included in the registration arm! Want to join? Mail: [email protected]
Neoadjuvant (C)RT is essential for those with enlarged LLNs. Expert radiologists have renewed the LPRGE guideline, and will discuss this guideline in a training sessions with a training case on the 24th of November at 08.00 (UTC+1). Interested? Mail: [email protected]
New evidence regarding the increased risk at lateral local recurrence for enlarged lateral lymph nodes in rectal cancer patients, don’t rely on restaging size for LLND indication! journals.lww.com/dcrjournal/…
Publication alert: node picking or partial LLND do not decrease lateral recurrence risk in rectal cancer patients with enlarged nodes. In the LaNoReC these patients undergo a complete LLND aiming to lower the risk to <6% pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3734… #SoMe4Surgery #rectalcancerresearch
The renewed Dutch delineation guideline has been approved by the Dutch GI radiotherapy association (LPRGE)! This guideline will guarantee uniform delineation and coverage of lateral lymph nodes in the LaNoReC study. Want to join the next online training? [email protected]
Since the hands-on cadaver session in 2021, monthly proctoring sessions have been implemented to provide feedback and guarantee uniform dissection. Last months the do’s and don’ts of LLND surgery were discussed. #colorectalsurgery #LLND #improvement
Adequate coverage of lateral lymph nodes by routine radiotherapy is associated with considerable lateral local recurrence risk. Published in #RedJournal #laterallymphnodes #colorectalresearch #radiotherapy @TaniaSluckin @SanneHazen @MirandaKusters

Update @LaNoReCstudy: the study has become a registration study, not subject to ethical restrictions, open for ALL patients with enlarged (≥7.0mm) or intermediate (5.0-6.9mm) lateral nodes with ANY neoadjuvant treatment, with a new protocol. Keen to join? [email protected]

15 to 20% local recurrence rate if lateral nodes > 7mm are left behind after CRTx for rectal cancer. @MirandaKusters
Significantly lower if dissected.
Response to CRTx may not be enough. #RACS23
