From Claude100K to Gemini10M, we are in the era of long context language models. Why and how a language model can utilize information at any input locations within long context? We discover retrieval heads, a special type of attention head responsible for long-context factuality

Fantastic to see Labour politicians being held to account on the important issue of revoking oil and gas extraction licences if they come into office.
🚨 BREAKING: Just Stop Oil Supporters Disrupt Emily Thornberry 🔥 Casper and Genevieve threw orange confetti and confronted her after she ignored the letter we delivered last week. 🛢️ @EmilyThornberry must commit to leaving Labour if they fail to cancel Tory oil and gas.

Big if true.
This is earth-shattering news. The "hard problem" of mechanistic interpretability has been solved. The formal/cautious/technical language of most ppl commenting on this obscures the gravity of it. What this means -> not just AGI, but *safe* *superintelligence* is 100% coming🧵

The fact that most individual neurons are uninterpretable presents a serious roadblock to a mechanistic understanding of language models. We demonstrate a method for decomposing groups of neurons into interpretable features with the potential to move past that roadblock.

Think it's probably time to once again to talk about WHY the overwhelming majority of refugees, asylum seekers & irregular migrants are young men, and why being a young man does not mean someone is not a genuine refugee or genuinely in need. 🧵
Note to the Left. Every illegal migrant that crosses the Channel from France is taking the place of someone genuinely in danger in a refugee camp. Why can't you see that these fit healthy young men are actually preventing help reaching those desperate people who really need it?

Here's a brief summary of my chat with @PatKennyNT this morning. Given what we know about the climate trajectories we are now facing, licensing new fossil fuel infrastructure would be an act of violent extremism. Luckily we still have time to stop it. @JustStop_Oil

This morning Sunak announced his plan to award 100+ *new* oil and gas licences. Everybody sane recognises that this will make breaching 1.5C inevitable. Here's a short article explaining why I think the urgency of this moment justifies disruptive action.
Irish climate activist: 'I joined Just Stop Oil and we know that disrupting ordinary people is uncomfortable, but it is one of the last tools we have to prevent the pain caused by gas and oil' jrnl.ie/6130993t

This video shows some of the highest density phage biolayers ever achieved, with SEM allowing us to resolve individual substructures. The sixth and final paper from my PhD, published this week, made it to the cover of ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering bit.ly/acsbse2

A sensor that attracts its target. Our latest article on a method for rapid fabrication of electrokinetically active plasmonic sensors. My favourite article from my PhD so far because it brought together several of my colleagues and their diverse skillsets bit.ly/EK-SPRi

Absolutely beautiful illustration here.
So what *actually* happens in your cells during a SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection? In a monumental effort for @MaastrichtU we track the whole viral lifecycle, from infection to the release of new viral particles. Watch the full story here: youtu.be/k2GlafQ9YhY

I'm very happy to announce that I'll be pivoting away from phage research and turning my focus to organ-in-chip approaches to personalised cancer therapy. From next week I will take the position of Research Associate in the Bioengineering Department at Imperial College London.
