Good but depressing read on the UK’s semi-conductor strategy, or lack thereof…
The tale of Newport Wafer Fab is a parable for our times. Tells you everything u need to know abt: - UK's industrial strategy; or complete lack of it. - UK's inability to decide what to do abt China. - Most of all, UK's complete obliviousness to what our economy actually DOES 🧵

“What I want to tell you today is not to move into that world where you're alone with yourself and your mantra and your fitness program or whatever it is that you might use to try to control the world by closing it out. I want to tell you just to live in the mess.

Throw yourself out into the convulsions of the world. I'm not telling you to make the world better, because I don't believe progress is necessarily part of the package. I'm telling you to live in it. Try and get it. Take chances, make your own work, take pride in it.

Good thread on #Binance getting caught in regulatory cross hairs
#Binance is an important case study in how far regulators will allow #cryptocurrency companies to encroach on tightly-controlled public markets without offering the usual investor/consumer protections. Here’s little thread on why we should be paying close attention. (1/9)

• Read everyday. • Spend time with nature. • Ask questions. • Never stop learning. • Don't pay attention to what others think of you. • Do what interests you the most. • Study hard. • Teach others what you know. • Make mistakes and learn. • It's Okay to not know things!

One thing I don't think people realize about urban jobs: Universities are the biggest non-government employers in 2/3 of American cities! This includes ones you don't expect: Atlanta's biggest employer is Emory, Philadelphia's is Penn, LA is UCLA, etc. Same with 8 states overall!

When laureate Ivar Giaever began working in physics he felt he was too old to make discoveries but his colleague disagreed: "John said to me, ‘You’re not too old. You make discoveries when you’re learning. So if you start learning at thirty you can still make discoveries.’”
