Our final day of JLM X Summer Camp was a great way to wrap up our week together! We ended our time with a graduation ceremony & 4 students shared what they learned during the week to the families that came to celebrate these AMAZING students!
While students learned a lot on Career Readiness day, they also enjoyed hanging out with each other! JLM Class X is a great bunch of kids!
Career Readiness is an important goal of our JLM program. Last week students learned about budgeting, resume writing & options for continuing their education. Students were thoughtful in the questions they asked of the over 20 volunteers they met that day!
Last Wednesday our JLM students also heard a great presentation from Jeremiah Owens about cultural competency and the biases & perspective we each have based on our past experiences. He really challenged us to be honest with ourselves & to look at people as individuals!
A week ago was Justice System & Public Safety Day. Students left with a better appreciation of fire & police workers & a better understanding of the Justice System. Sitting in on some courtroom proceedings was a unique experience for our students!
Last Tuesday was Health & Human Services Day. We learned about organizations that help with food insecurity & youth homelessness & ways to get involved. We also toured MedStar, had a mental health presentation, & heard from a healthcare panel. It was an eye-opening day!
Our JLM X Summer Camp was a huge success last week! Monday was Intro to JLM X. We did get to know you activities, learned about being your authentic self and own positive brand, & participated in a Real Colors Personality test. It was a fantastic first day!
The last 2 days of JLM's Summer Camp have been loads of fun! Thanks to the many speakers & volunteers who have made it informative and interactive!
