This is great. Share it with others. It shows just how useless the governments of the last 30 years have been.
I wanted to visualise Britain's state spending ahead of the Budget, so I've vibe coded an app which presents it as a disk drive. Take a look at the tradeoffs and see if you can make the budget fit: britains-disk.pages.dev

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham says an "honest discussion" is needed on Britain readopting EU free movement "Freedom of movement had very significant challenges associated with it... but it was a type of immigration that perhaps wasn’t as difficult [as now]"

🇫🇷 She walked off with a whole ZARA BOX in the middle of the street 😬 The same days of unrest have already left thousands of shops hit across France. The clip shows how fast the line between protest and open taking disappears once the windows are already broken. Writer: Lucas

They pulled a gun on him and detained him just because he had two bottles. I thought they were Molotovs. They released him after because they weren't. That tells you everything about the tension in France right now.

Socialism wants nice areas to be as shitty as the inner cities where they have power.
Labour will sharply reduce funding for some of Britain’s most affluent councils and divert it to poorer areas, after Andy Burnham has promised to create “good growth in every postcode”. Councils in the vales and shires will lose £61m of grant funding from central government over the next three years, while urban areas will see an uplift of £2.9bn, according to ONS figures ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

Pretty much at the point where leftists will spend whatever they like to keep power and then just help themselves to our bank accounts. No need for a tax system. Just take cash or assets as they like.
🚨 BREAKING: John Healey will announce at the Budget that HMRC will be given powers to seize money directly from the bank accounts of people who fail to pay their tax

Sad news today. After 5 years of medical training, one of my mates has been struck off due to a minor discretion. He slept with one of his patients and can no longer do the job he loves. What a waste of time and money. Genuinely a great guy and a brilliant vet

EXCLUSIVE: Andy Burnham must “take the knife” to public spending in the budget or risk a Liz Truss-style crisis that will “crater” the economy and the government’s popularity, an ally of the prime minister has warned Andy Haldane, a former chief economist at the Bank of England, said he feared the government would deliver a “mañana budget” that deferred the difficult decisions on public spending and “doesn’t speak to the urgency of now” In an interview with The Times, he said that Britain was “close to being taxed out and maxed out in terms of borrowing”. He spoke of concerns that the government was failing to grasp how “precarious” the fiscal position was He said that the government needs to cut the size of the state and reduce taxes if it were to “unleash the animal spirits and generate growth” Haldane warned Burnham that he cannot “vibe-code” his way to growth, and raised concerns about the gap between the government’s rhetoric and the reality. He said that the government was effectively deferring the “day of reckoning” He also said that the decision to increase taxes on banks could show that the government lacked the courage to cut public spending. He said the move was “penny wise, pound foolish” and sent a broader economic message that if businesses make profits “the taxman cometh” Haldane said that while Burnham had the potential to be a “great prime minister” who could serve two terms, the economy was his “blind spot”. He said that the fiscal situation facing Britain was “precarious” “The penny has not yet fully dropped, including in Downing Street,” he said. “You see that in us having the highest borrowing costs in the G7, despite not having the highest debts and deficits. “It’s the old Hemingway [Ernest Hemingway, the author] thing, isn’t it? How do you go bankrupt? First slowly, then very quickly. The biggest risk to Andy not transforming Britain, to not serving two terms, to not being seen in the history books as a great prime minister, is not political risk. “It’s not those who sit behind him. It’s probably not even those who sit opposite him in Westminster. Keir [Starmer] lost the dressing room. Andy’s biggest risk is that he loses the dealing room. And then that’s an even more painful way to go, as Liz Truss would tell you.” Andy Haldane: PM risks Truss-style crisis if he dodges tough choices thetimes.com/article/9b12c00…

Why go public so quick with declaring ethnicities and probable motive so quick? Just before the protests? It’s almost like he’d welcome total chaos so he can cancel elections ……

This is just reality in IT Ops. The CEO comment made me howl. We’ve all been there.
Security called me at 6:12 AM today. "Patch every PHP server immediately." I asked what happened. "Two critical vulnerabilities. Remote code execution. No authentication required." Cool. How many PHP servers do we have? According to inventory: 12 According to reality: Nobody knows. We found one running WordPress. Three running old internal tools. One under someone's desk. Two inside vendor appliances. A forgotten employee directory from 2016. And a server named: PHP-OLD-DO-NOT-TOUCH Naturally, that one runs payroll exports. Then we found a PHP 5.6 box. I asked who owned it. The documentation said: BRIAN. Brian left in 2019. We called Brian. He said: "Oh wow, that's still running?" Excellent. By 8 AM, leadership joined the incident call. CEO: "Can hackers actually get in?" Security: "Potentially yes." CEO: "Without a password?" Security: "Yes." CEO: "Then why do WE need passwords?" Not the lesson. Finance asked if we could wait until the weekend to patch because downtime affects revenue. Security explained that the alternative was letting strangers execute code on our servers. Finance asked for a cost comparison. At 9:17, someone suggested temporarily taking the vulnerable websites offline. Marketing refused. "Our campaign is live." So for the next hour, the company officially decided maintaining a landing page for 20% off webinar registration was more important than preventing remote server takeover. We finally patched everything we could find. Then our scanner discovered another PHP server. Hostname: TEMP-PHP-2014 Uptime: 4,512 days. Nobody knows what it does. Nobody owns it. Nobody can shut it down. But every time we block network access, the warehouse stops printing shipping labels. Security has classified it as critical infrastructure. It is running PHP 5.4. The vulnerability has existed longer than half our employees. The emergency patch took four hours. Finding out what PHP actually runs took eleven. The internet isn't held together with code. It's held together with servers everyone is afraid to turn off.

Make gas cheaper to discourage the uptake of heat pumps. Yeah ok.
Finally looks like we may be getting somewhere with STANDING CHARGES @andyburnham at #PMQs just now "“I can tell the House today that I have asked the chancellor and the energy secretary to look at whether we can remove standing charges from gas bills and to report back to this House at the earliest opportunity.”

I’ve been saying this for years. “Parents could be forced to pay for damage caused by their children”. Make Mum and Dad pay. Second offence it’s Grandmas and Grandads too. Then aunts and uncles. Watch families police themselves.
