In yesterday’s debate on the govt’s plans to hand Chagos to Mauritius (& pay them a fortune), I didn’t hear a single Labour backbencher speak in favour.
There are so many reasons why it’s an appalling plan- for our security, our finances, and for the environment.
We are handing one of the most biodiverse and pristine areas with near 100% protection today to a country that ranks amongst the lowest in terms of nature protection and whose politicians have already admitted they will allow industrial fishing to return to 99% of the waters.
This was one of the great environmental successes in my lifetime, and we are simply knocking it on the head - for no obvious reason.
I'm calling on the UK Government to stop the proposed changes to Biodiversity Net Gain, which put nature recovery at risk just as the system starts to work.

Take action for the Kawahiva - fighting for their survival in the Brazilian Amazon, forced to live on the run amid invasions, violence & disease from loggers & ranchers. Unless their land is protected, they will face extinction: act.survivalinternational.or…
The Conservatives have an open goal here, by opposing the bad bits of this bill they have a real chance of generating broad support from the British public, who have time and again supported sensible environmental policies. Sadly @KemiBadenoch doesn't get this. @Conservatives
⚠️ Nature is at risk ⚠️
@GOVUK promised to protect nature. But it’s breaking that promise.
Demand they scrap the part of the new Planning and Infrastructure Bill which threatens important wildlife protections.🗣️
Take action here wtru.st/3SkLinU

Right now, there are many deceptive food labels that disguise the horrors of factory farming. I just asked the UK Government to set out plans for ensuring consumers have honest labelling. Take action too: bit.ly/clearlabelling-

Abducted by the Chinese govt as a six-year-old boy, still under house arrest 30 years later, simply for being recognised as the Panchen Lama @Telegraph @guardian @thetimes @Independent @DailyMail @Daily_Express @WSJ @timesofindia @WashTimes @GBNEWS @latimes @BBCWorld @cnni
30 years ago, a six-year-old boy disappeared.
On 17 May 1995, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima—recognised by the @DalaiLama as the 11th Panchen Lama—was abducted by the Chinese government, along with his family.
We renew our call:
Where is the #PanchenLama? 🗣️🚨

So Labour are planning to build on 'grey belt' to include 'unsightly scrubland', a critical habitat type for countless endangered species including Nightingale, Dormice and Turtle Dove. Does nobody in the Labour party care about wildlife? #bbcqt @wesstreeting @AngelaRayner
I've written to my MP to demand that the Government adopts a nature friendly approach to planning and development. Will you take action too? Help ensure that nature is at the heart of government's planning reforms: action.rspb.org.uk/page/1595…
