Pop Cultural Note: The cheesecake (according to a member of The Band Freddie) was not for Sean “P Diddy” Combs. That cheesecake was for Beyonce.
Diddy offered the six members of Da Band $7,500 to sign to Bad Boy. Total. Then, on MTV, he sent them walking six hours across New York to bring back his cheesecake.
In the video below, Ness, one of the six, tells it himself and does the math. "Not $75,000. Not $750,000. That's $1,250 a piece."
They had won Making the Band 2. Millions watched Diddy build them on TV. The walk went from Manhattan, over the Brooklyn Bridge, to Junior's and back. "Six hours total," Ness says.
The other five were ready to sign the deal as it was. Ness took it to a lawyer first, and the number went up.
Their album, Too Hot for TV, went gold. Then Diddy broke up the group on the show.
After the breakup came a publishing offer: $300,000, split six ways, only if all six signed. Ness refused to give up his rights. The others stayed angry with him for years.
Then the taxes came. Ness says they were paraded around for "promo" that was really paid work, and the IRS seized his royalties.
"I wasn't getting no royalties for 20 years," he says. "I've been in financial ruins for the whole 19 years."
Six kids walked six hours for a cheesecake. One of them spent the next 19 years paying for the contract.
Was Ness robbed, or did six kids from a reality show sign what they were handed?
Another one tomorrow.

Acts of Anti-Black Police Terrorism doesn’t care if you are 1 or 100 years old.
A 19 month old Black child, sitting in the lap of his mother, was shot dead by the police over allegations of shoplifting things like diapers and baby food. The mother said that she showed the police her child, and the officer fired anyway.
A 19 month old child’s life was taken by an agent of the state, only for that same state to determine that no crime was committed in firing bullets into the body of a baby.
That is a true act of legally legitimized terror. When an officer knows that laws are set up to protect him, even in the face of killing a baby…that is some sick ass shit.
The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi attorney general’s office announced mississippifreepress.org/pol…

NFL star Azeez Al-Shaair honored another Palestinian girl today, wearing the name ‘Maryam Ghanem’ on his eye black during the Houston Texans’ game.
Maryam was saved from her burning home a couple days ago after watching both her parents burn to death after an Israeli airstrike.
This marks five consecutive weeks of Al-Shaair using his platform to honor Palestinian children.
There often times is a noticeable difference between what someone believes about themselves, and what their behavior reveals.
“I’m not a Republican, nor a Democrat, nor an American—and got sense enough to know it.
I’m one of the 22 million Black victims of the Democrats. One of the 22 million Black victims of the Republicans and one of the 22 million Black victims of Americanism. And when I speak, I don’t speak as a Democrat or a Republican, nor an American. I speak as a victim of America’s so-called democracy.”–Malcolm X

North Carolina university students walked out of classes Thursday, demanding justice for Nolan Wells.
Calls for an independent federal investigation into the 18-year-old Black college student’s death in July have spread from Mississippi to Atlanta, New York, and now HBCUs and other schools across the South, after a Jackson County grand jury declared that it found "no evidence" of a crime and declined to bring charges in September.
Wells’s body was found near Horn Island after a holiday boat trip with white friends. His family says they have received too few answers regarding the circumstances of his death.

The Ghetto Informant Program:
The Ghetto Informant Program (GIP), *was* a vast surveillance initiative designed to penetrate Black communities during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Church Committee Staff Report noted, “Perhaps one of the largest programs was the so-called ghetto informant program.” The numbers alone underscore the scale of state intrusion: “In August 1968, we had 3,248 racial ghetto-type informants… By October we were at 6,000. It reached its peak in 1972 with 7,500 ghetto informants.”
