Our Executive Director and staff are participating in a four-day training for Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) officers and Investigating Officers (IOs) on the practical application of UN standards and principles in Rwanda’s correctional facilities. @ArdhoRwanda , in partnership with @UNHumanRights and @RCS_Rwanda, organized the training in Musanze District. On Day 1, our Executive Director delivered a lecture on “The Bill of Rights in the Constitution of Rwanda and UPR Recommendations Concerning Rwanda’s Justice System, and the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-Custodial Measures for Women Offenders.” He emphasized that the protection of human rights remains essential, even in detention, and that every person deserves dignity, justice, and humane treatment. The lecture highlighted constitutional guarantees, key UPR recommendations on justice and human rights, and international standards for protecting the rights of women in conflict with the law. “A person may lose their liberty, but they must never lose their dignity.

TOWARDS JUST AND EFFECTIVE EXPROPRIATION PRACTICES IN RWANDA This report examines how far Rwanda's expropriation framework, mainly Law No. 32/2015 relating to expropriation in the public interest, is respected in practice. It builds on LAF's 2015 assessment. The evidence comes from a mixed-methods study carried out between December 2021 and March 2022: a household survey of 1,248 expropriated households in five districts (Gasabo, Bugesera, Muhanga, Musanze and Rubavu), plus key informant interviews and focus group discussions.
