The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme or Clareโs Law is a police policy giving people the right to know if their current or ex-partner has any previous history of violence or abuse.
The scheme is named after Clare Wood, who was murdered by her abusive ex-boyfriend in 2009. After Clare's tragic death her father, Michael Brown, campaigned to change the law surrounding the disclosure of previous history of violence or domestic abuse.
You can apply for information about your current or ex-partner or apply on behalf of someone else through the Leicestershire Police website. You can also click on the link below to visit this page.
Please help to raise awareness of Clare's Law and remember to always call 999 if someone is in immediate danger.

This week, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Oliver Bryan visited the Broadnook Garden Village development with Megan, one of the Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCO) at Leicestershire Police.
As part of the Force's Prevention Directorate, Designing Out Crime Officers liaise with local authorities, architects and developers to help ensure new developments are built with safety and security in mind from the outset. Their expertise helps reduce opportunities for crime and anti-social behaviour, creating places where people can feel safe and secure.
During the visit, the DPCC and Megan discussed the positive design features incorporated into the development and how they can contribute to long-term crime prevention.
Oliver thanked Megan and the wider DOCO team for their expertise and commitment, saying:
"The best way to tackle crime is to stop it from happening in the first place. Things like street layout, lighting, visibility, parking and open spaces all affect how safe a neighbourhood is and how safe it feels.
With so much new housing planned across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, getting safety and security built in from day one is vital to support long-term prevention."

For many students, Freshers' can be your first taste of independence, from managing your own money to finding your feet in a new place.
Scams targeting students can include fake accommodation offers, phishing emails, student finance scams and messages designed to steal your personal or financial information. More recently, international students have reported receiving calls from fraudsters posing as official organisations, claiming there's an issue with a visa or immigration status and demanding payment.
If you're ever contacted unexpectedly and asked for money, personal details or pressured to take urgent action, take a moment to stop and check.

Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews is delivering on his Police and Crime Plan commitment to work with the Chief Constable and partners to tackle the anti-social use of vehicles, including car cruising, nuisance motorbikes, illegal e-bikes and e-scooters.
To support this work and improve road safety, the OPCC funded, produced and distributed 160 warning signs across all nine Leicestershire Police Neighbourhood Policing Areas (NPAs). Local commanders highlighted the impact of vehicle related anti-social behaviour in their communities, helping to identify where the signs would be most effective.
Local beat teams have installed the signs at hotspot locations, including roadsides, parks, public footpaths and car parks. They send a clear message that anti-social vehicle use will not be tolerated and that police will take action, including seizing vehicles where appropriate.
The signs have now been installed across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, helping to tackle vehicle related anti-social behaviour in identified hotspot locations. While signs are not a solution on their own, they provide a visible deterrent, support police enforcement and reinforce the message that anti-social use of vehicles will not be tolerated.
Today, the PCC met with Blaby Neighbourhood Policing Area Commander Inspector Allingham to discuss the impact of these issues across the district and joined him in installing one of the signs in Enderby.
Inspector Allingham reported that the area has seen a continued reduction in car cruising since 2023. The PCC also raised concerns from residents about illegal e-bikes and e-scooters, with the Inspector outlining the ongoing work of neighbourhood officers to remove them from the streets through targeted operations.

The OPCC Partnerships Team recently attended the Sporting Communities Youth Innovation Conference, an event focused on youth safety.
The conference gave young people the opportunity to engage with a range of organisations and partners showcasing their work to keep communities safe. The team also invited attendees to experience a short e-safety video through our virtual reality headsets, which explores the importance of staying safe online when receiving their first mobile phone.
It was also a great opportunity to discuss the Community Action Programme, which supports young people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland by funding local crime prevention initiatives and diversionary activities. Alongside keynote speakers, the conference featured interactive workshops covering topics including online dating, and how online communities and personalised feeds can influence young people's identity and experiences. Attendees also heard directly from members of the Sporting Communities Youth Panel, ensuring young people's voices remained at the heart of discussions.

More than 450 free home security devices have been distributed to residents through the Police and Crime Commissioner's Prevent and Protect scheme across two successful collection events.
Held in Loughborough on 28th August and Thurmaston on 4th September, the events gave eligible residents the opportunity to collect a free WiFi CCTV camera, video doorbell or motion-sensor security light to help protect their homes from burglary.
The eligible postcode areas were identified using police data, targeting support at areas at increased risk of burglary.
Tackling neighbourhood crime is a key priority in the Police and Crime Plan, with the PCC committed to investing in practical crime prevention measures that help keep people and property safe.
Further Prevent and Protect events are being considered in areas where police data indicates crime prevention support is most needed. Details will be announced in due course.

Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews has now secured enhanced police patrols for market towns across Leicestershire, delivering on a key commitment to residents, businesses and local communities.
By December, Market Harborough, Hinckley, Loughborough, Coalville, Melton Mowbray and Ashby-de-la-Zouch will benefit from additional police patrols focused on tackling persistent concerns around anti-social behaviour and shoplifting, boosting visibility and helping make town centres safer and more welcoming places to live, work and visit.
In May, Mr Matthews announced plans to improve community safety in the county's market towns, making clear he was prepared to commission an external provider if necessary to deliver the visible policing residents were calling for. As part of his process to find the most effective solution, he asked Chief Constable if the force could identify a solution that would meet those needs.
Following consideration of all available options, including private sector alternatives, Leicestershire Police will now deliver the enhanced patrols under a Service Level Agreement using police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). The arrangement will cost less than originally budgeted by the Commissioner, with savings reinvested into further crime prevention initiatives across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
