Someone two doors down from us had their pickup and tools nicked the other night. Had a look at the ring footage. And we now have an exact time and two scrotes who did it. They’re hooded so no doubt they won’t be identified but hopefully the exact timing will help.

If you pay 40 or 45% tax there are Gilts which pay a very low coupon (say 1%) but trade at a very heavy discount to par. The 2032 one is trading at under 82p. This means that for every 82p you invest today the government will give 100p in January 2032. This means a yield

of around 5% if held to maturity. Risk free and guaranteed. The interest is 1% pa. Gilts are CGT free even outside an isa. This is not investment advice and you should consult your professional advisor.

And remember if you’re holding outside a tax shelter you’d need to gross the capital gain up by 20, 40 or 45% to work out what you’d need from a taxable investment. You would pay income tax on the interest though.

So have beaten renewal price from existing insurer by £480. Included in that saving is a policy to take my excess down to zero. What a shitshow.

So Axa have increased our motor premium by 100% despite the claim we had being fully recovered from the other side. Well they won’t be getting a renewal from us.

I understand why some people get frustrated with insurers. Had the renewal notice in for my car insurance. Had to call them as Mrs G had a claim in August on the other car’s insurance. The incident was a no blame on her part - she was in inside lane on motorway and car in the .

outside lane turned into her. £6.5k of damage. Within 24 hours other side accepted liability and within a day of repairs being completed our insurer confirmed they had recovered all outlays from other side. NCD unaffected and no excess to pay. So anyway tell the insurers the full

story. They feed it into sausage machine and renewal quote goes up £20. Now, in my first week in insurance in 1989 I was told that’s it’s a “no claim discount not a no blame discount” but when there has been no cost to our insurer it does stick in the craw. Different insurer too.
