Jesse Jane was 43 when police found her dead in her Oklahoma home in January 2024. Her boyfriend had been dead in the same house for days. She had been the biggest adult star in America for a decade, starred in the two highest-budget porn films ever made, and died in a suburb her own fans never heard of.
In the video below, she sits for a 2008 interview at the peak of her career.
She was born Cynthia Ann Howell in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1980. By 21 she was a Hooters waitress in Moore, Oklahoma, divorced, raising her young son alone. In 2003 she signed with Digital Playground as their first-ever contract girl. They renamed her Jesse Jane.
Two years later she was the biggest adult performer in America.
Her 2005 film Pirates had a budget of over 1 million dollars. It won 11 AVN awards, a record. The 2008 sequel was budgeted at 8 million dollars. It is still the most expensive adult film ever made.
She crossed over into mainstream. Entourage. Starship Troopers 3. Howard Stern hosted her multiple times.
She said in interviews over the years that she only took the work so her son could grow up in a house.
She had corrective breast surgery in 2007 after earlier implant complications. The procedure was filmed for Dr. 90210.
The big exclusive contracts ended in the mid-2010s. She talked openly about rehab, pills, trying to come back. In 2015 she moved back to Oklahoma for good.
On January 24, 2024, police went to a house in Moore, Oklahoma, on a welfare check. They found Jesse Jane dead inside. Her boyfriend Brett Hasenmueller had been dead on the same floor for several days before her. Both died from accidental fentanyl and cocaine toxicity.
Her son is in his mid-twenties now.
The biggest star of her era died in a quiet suburb next to a boyfriend most of her fans never knew existed.
