There's been a noticeable decline in football legends retiring at the clubs where they spent their best years. We grew up seeing players like Maldini and Totti finish their careers at their boyhood clubs. Nowadays, Messi didn't retire at Barcelona, Ronaldo didn't retire at Manchester United or Real Madrid, and even legends like Ramos, Modrić and Casemiro left Real Madrid before retiring. Barcelona have also seen Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and Jordi Alba leave without retiring at the club. Toni Kroos is one of the rare exceptions. It's sad that we've gradually lost that connection between legendary players and the clubs where they made history.
