Why is @AndyBurnham and @AngelaRayner pushing a new law to allow illegal defects to stay on blocks of flats? The Building Safety (Remediation of Unsafe Cladding etc) Bill and associated PAS9980:2026 guidance is due to pass through parliament shortly. We call for PAS9980 to be amended to re-define "tolerable" to ensure all unlawful defects are fixed. Something we didn't think we would need to ask for after the horrors of Grenfell. @mhclg @GideonJAmos @KirstieMAllsopp @AlPinkerton @mtpennycook @The_ABI_UK @GrenfellUnited @EOCS_Official @NonQualifyingLH

When you buy a home, you trusted it met the applicable fire safety regulations in force at the time of construction. If that is not the case, you would have been misold a property and would think the illegal fire safety defects would be fixed. This is not the case. Under the new Building Safety (Remediation of Unsafe Cladding etc) Bill, PAS9980 remediation guidance recently published by the BSI will be used to define a tolerable fire safety defect as defined by the highly subjective PAS9980 guidance. PAS9980 allows illegal construction, breaches of building regulations at the time of build, to stay without being fixed, robbing people of the standard they paid for and putting them at risk of further remediations if a later Fire Safety Order FRA requires it. This goes against the advice of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) as below. PAS9980 must not become law in its current form and must be amended. The dangers of using PAS9980 for post Grenfell remediations was exposed by @GideonJAmos and @AlPinkerton in parliament and should not be included in the published Remediation Bill. This guidance due to become law : - Eliminates the need to check if defects breached building regulations at the time of construction. - Undermines the Fire Safety Order that needs buildings to be complaint with the Building Regulations to manage fire risk properly. - It condemns people to permanently high insurance and is rejected by the ABI. - Allows highly combustible material banned on new buildings to remain on existing buildings (RAQ example). - Allows completely opposing fire engineering conclusions to both be true. We must oppose this appalling remediation guidance from becoming law in the Remediation Bill as has now seen published. @geoffWilkinson @dominicahern @andyburnham @AngelaRayner @LibdemCharlie @KathPinnock
PAS9980 is in the Remediation Bill. Allows flammable cladding to stay in situ without mandatory requirement to show it’s passed a fire rig test if subjectively a fire engineer/assessor deems the risk ‘tolerable’ what do the families of the 72 dead at Grenfell and survivors say?

Why did The Institute of Fire Safety Managers @the_ifsm sponsored by the The Fire Protection Association issue Colin Todd MBE the "2026 Fire Safety Professional of the Year" award just 2 weeks after receiving a final warning sanction from the The Institution of Fire Engineers ? How can the IFSM be taken seriously as a fire risk assessor regulator, if they overlook sanctions by other professional bodies when issuing awards? ifsm.org.uk/awards @GideonJAmos @GeoffWilkinson @AlPinkerton @mtpennycook @mhclg @LabourHousing @andyburnham @AngelaRayner @virtualvirgil @PeteApps

Grateful to David Jones at the UK Construction Industry Task Force for the opportunity to speak on 13th October at the RICS head quarters in London on building safety from a resident/campaigner perspective, the problems of PAS9980:2026 and upcoming plans for the buildingsafetyscheme.org campaign ahead of the Remediation Bill. uk-citf-events.co.uk/events/… @PhilH23 @PeteApps @GideonJAmos @AlPinkerton @kevinhollinrake @dominicahern @dannybster @WelshCladiators @EOCS_Official @NonQualifyingLH

Questions for The Institute of Fire Safety Managers - @the_ifsm on Colin Todd MBE's award. He was sanctioned by the The Institution of Fire Engineers @ifeglobal on 16/09/26. He should have informed the IFSM according to their members guidelines of the sanction as below. 11.4. Members must also inform the Institute if they are, or have been, subject to investigation, disciplinary proceedings, or sanctions by another professional or regulatory body, where relevant to their professional practice or membership of the Institute. So why was a sanctioned fire engineer awarded "Fire Professional of the Year" by the IFSM on 01/10/26 a few weeks after the sanction was issued? Do they not care about members issuing defamatory comments about members of the public on LinkedIn? @GeoffWilkinson @GideonJAmos @AlPinkerton @MattHodgesLong

Very disturbing post - alarming lack of judgement to target highly informed & respected fire cladding victims. Says a lot about the industry ecosphere. Good to see this astonishing act corrected. Diolch to @LibDemSteve for his campaigning and resilience in face of such attacks.

Todd - who is co-author of the current official guidance to fire engineers in assessing the risk from cladding systems, and whose consultancy authored controversial official advice on Stay Put before Grenfell - posted this on his LinkedIn page to @LibDemSteve last Christmas

Fire Expert Colin Todd had been sanctioned by The Institution of Fire Engineers for appalling social media behaviour including the infamous Christmas Day poem mocking building safety campaigner Stephen Day. Poem below. "IFE Outcome: Final warning issued. The member is to withdraw the LinkedIn posts and publish an apology, to be replicated in the IFP Journal. Ethics and Professionalism and Communications in Social Media training to be undertaken within 12 months of the date of notification." Steve Day looks forward to the apology. @GideonJAmos @ifeglobal @AlPinkerton @GeoffWilkinson @MattHodgesLong @EOCS_Official @dominicahern @HarryScoffin
PAS 9980:2026 takes effect tomorrow. I thought I would share a mocking poem from one of the authors of this post Grenfell Remediation Guidance sent me on Christmas Day last year mocking me for campaigning for safer remediations. It's set to music! Credit for the mocking lyrics goes to Colin Todd MBE. We need to take building safety far more seriously than Todd and his PAS9980 guidance does. @WelshCladiators @GideonJAmos @PhilH23 @LibdemCharlie @moving_charlie @KirstieMAllsopp

Why is @AngelaRayner betraying the victims of Grenfell by enacting yesterday highly subjective remediation guidance that : 1) Allows house builders to leave unlawful building safety defects on buildings. 2) Encourages multiple phases of remediating buildings. Which phase is considered safe? Who pays for each phase? 3) Makes it possible for two completely opposite fire engineering conclusions to both be true. Thanks to @BBCNews and @PhilH23 for covering this appalling PAS9980 guidance yesterday.

@BBCNews - Residents fear new PAS9980 rules could mean dangerous cladding is left on blocks of flats "Grenfell, cladding campaigners say even a tolerable risk is unacceptable and tower blocks should at least be repaired to meet the building regulations at the time they were built. This government enjoy playing a perverse game of Russian roulette and you know if that's the route they want to go down they need to be very very careful that that doesn't end up in another tower." @GideonJAmos @AlPinkerton @PhilH23 @EOCS_Official @WelshCladiators @EdwardJDavey @kevinhollinrake @andyburnham
