I find it extremely funny that the leading opponent of funding BART complained two hours ago that BART was having problems because it was raining and then turns around and complains about the funding which is allocated to fixing the rain problem.
Oct 1, 2019: New @SFBART GM Powers out pushing a $100B tax measure for 2020 (incl. new transbay tube) right after Measure RR’s ~$3.5B gift to BART in 2016. Agency was losing riders and cash. Proof they planned more taxes before COVID. Expect another one in 2028 post-Measure RTM. abc7news.com/post/report-bar…

My opinions at 14 were basically settled into the current opinion set and were almost certainly better than the median voters’. If you’re seeing *bad* takes from 14 year olds, this is a self admission of guilt. Nobody other than you controls how the algorithm perceives you!

But also, this is more a problem of the take being bad than of the take being from a 14 year old

on a scale of 1-10, how admissible is evidence obtained by dutch military intelligence recruiting russian spies who hacked your phone
The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

I just spent like 3 weeks trying to understand what you're supposed to do in this situation and how an AV might do the same thing and in a majority of states, "leave a note" is actually exactly what you're supposed to do in this situation.
Someone hit my car this morning but at least they left me a note...

What if we just abolished the field of law entirely and became Chinese or something idk how do we allow these people to have any modicum of influence over real life affairs

yes, the relevant change is that the crime rate went way down
apologies if this is super naive but just asking bc im curious. is there anything different about raising a kid now in 2026 versus in the 80s that warrants them needing more supervision? like when my dad was like 8 he'd wander around the city alone most of the time. i'm asking bc when i have kids, i dont want to have to supervise them 24/7. i feel like that's very demanding on parents. why cant independent play be more of then norm? is it a cultural thing? or is the world more dangerous now than it used to be?

Did anyone ever get around to fixing that subdivision planning document from the 1930s that described how grids were bad and you should purposefully destroy the road navigability and was somehow still the in-force guidance document today? Or is that still there

> Multiple democratic values and individual rights fundamental to the civil justice system cannot be easily replicated with an administrative compensation fund, lawyers, man

The worst part about lawyers is that there's like a 50-50 chance they're right and you actually have to hear them out. In the other 50% they're proposing totally ludicrous racketeering schemes for their industry with insane frictions but it's hard to tell ex ante.

The other thing about Grand Central is that the longest-distance train to serve the station in the present day goes to Wassaic, an irrelevant exurb 88 miles north of the station. The second furthest goes to New Haven. There are no intercity trains to Grand Central.
Replying to @marcjoffe
To anyone thinking about HSR making Salesforce Transit Center the Grand Central Station of the West: There is NO legislatively-approved or funded plan to get HSR anywhere north of Merced. It ain't happening in your lifetime even if you're young.

And, in fact, digging a tunnel under the Gilroy-Merced mountain range is probably cheaper than Alt G, which would be the intercity-trains-to-Grand-Central project

The answer would be obvious if you actually ride transit but I guess that’s too much to expect from people who don’t want to fund transit lmao
Why are we building an $8 billion subway to connect Caltrain Station to the financial district when Muni Metro already connects Caltrain Station to the Financial District?

"and a potential commuter rail station". Very exciting! These kinds of projects drive transit adoption and use far more than typical expansion does. Places with high commuter rail use (NY, Chicago) tend to cluster town centers, suburban offices, and sometimes apartments near stations, which is what makes those systems so useful compared to their less-used cousins. It's exciting to see that Miami is adopting the surrounding built-form requirements for successful commuter rail.
The scale of this development is almost impossible to grasp from just one rendering. These additional views show the full ambition of Miami’s 18-acre Magic City Innovation District: • 2,600+ homes • Offices, retail and hospitality • New parks and public spaces • A potential commuter-rail station This isn’t just two new towers. It’s an entirely new district rising in Little Haiti.

claims being made presumptively this is the equivalent of nuclear-level MAD given the digitization levels of economies around the world
The TSO, or Technology Support Office, was established in April to 'covertly disrupt and sabotage foreign technology programs considered threats to American military superiority.' In September the Washington Sun reported that the NSA told lawmakers in classified intelligence briefings that it estimates it has spent billions of dollars 'evaluating and testing' models this year already. In the draft S-1 leaked by the WSJ yesterday, Anthropic said that one-fifth of its $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026 came from just two customers. Motive, means, and opportunity. I think a lot of money is being spent by agencies through Project Glasswing or channels related to it, and they have probably covertly penetrated every nation on earth to look at anything even potentially considered a threat. There is no defense against the current internal version of Mythos unless you have access to it. No foreign intelligence agency on earth has anything even close. It's actions would also almost certainly be undetectable. Assume US agencies know much more about any technological progress in China than they are letting on; given Dario's openly stated position on China, this would almost certainly be done with his approval.
