"I wasn't a multimillionaire at fourteen. I lived in poverty while writing the book that made Emma famous. I therefore understand from my own life experience what the trashing of women's rights in which Emma has so enthusiastically participated means to women and girls without her privileges."
I'm seeing quite a bit of comment about this, so I want to make a couple of points.
I'm not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created. The idea is as ludicrous as me checking with the boss I had when I was twenty-one for what opinions I should hold these days.
Emma Watson and her co-stars have every right to embrace gender identity ideology. Such beliefs are legally protected, and I wouldn't want to see any of them threatened with loss of work, or violence, or death, because of them.
However, Emma and Dan in particular have both made it clear over the last few years that they think our former professional association gives them a particular right - nay, obligation - to critique me and my views in public. Years after they finished acting in Potter, they continue to assume the role of de facto spokespeople for the world I created.
When you've known people since they were ten years old it's hard to shake a certain protectiveness. Until quite recently, I hadn't managed to throw off the memory of children who needed to be gently coaxed through their dialogue in a big scary film studio. For the past few years, I've repeatedly declined invitations from journalists to comment on Emma specifically, most notably on the Witch Trials of JK Rowling. Ironically, I told the producers that I didn't want her to be hounded as the result of anything I said.
The television presenter in the attached clip highlights Emma's 'all witches' speech, and in truth, that was a turning point for me, but it had a postscript that hurt far more than the speech itself. Emma asked someone to pass on a handwritten note from her to me, which contained the single sentence 'I'm so sorry for what you're going through' (she has my phone number). This was back when the death, rape and torture threats against me were at their peak, at a time when my personal security measures had had to be tightened considerably and I was constantly worried for my family's safety. Emma had just publicly poured more petrol on the flames, yet thought a one line expression of concern from her would reassure me of her fundamental sympathy and kindness.
Like other people who've never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she's ignorant of how ignorant she is. She'll never need a homeless shelter. She's never going to be placed on a mixed sex public hospital ward. I'd be astounded if she's been in a high street changing room since childhood. Her 'public bathroom' is single occupancy and comes with a security man standing guard outside the door. Has she had to strip off in a newly mixed-sex changing room at a council-run swimming pool? Is she ever likely to need a state-run rape crisis centre that refuses to guarantee an all-female service? To find herself sharing a prison cell with a male rapist who's identified into the women's prison?
I wasn't a multimillionaire at fourteen. I lived in poverty while writing the book that made Emma famous. I therefore understand from my own life experience what the trashing of women's rights in which Emma has so enthusiastically participated means to women and girls without her privileges.
The greatest irony here is that, had Emma not decided in her most recent interview to declare that she loves and treasures me - a change of tack I suspect she's adopted because she's noticed full-throated condemnation of me is no longer quite as fashionable as it was - I might never have been this honest.
Adults can't expect to cosy up to an activist movement that regularly calls for a friend's assassination, then assert their right to the former friend's love, as though the friend was in fact their mother. Emma is rightly free to disagree with me and indeed to discuss her feelings about me in public - but I have the same right, and I've finally decided to exercise it.

The root of the political decay we see across America & Europe: hive-mind tribalism. These aren't independent thinkers or doogooders. They're ideological cultists, incapable of questioning their own dogma or abandoning the toxic narratives that sustain their broken worldview.

Macron says that todayâs shooting in Trappes was aimed at migrants and the first terror attack in French history against a group of people targeted because of their skin and religion.
He is naturally lying as there have been several such Islamist attacks in France in recent years which were carried out against Jews or Christians.
- 2012, Mohammed Merah attacks a Jewish school in Toulouse and murders a rabbi and 3 kids
- 2015, Amedy Coulibaly murders 4 Jews at the Hypercacher kosher supermarket in Paris
- 2016, Adel Kermiche and Abdel Malik Petitjean storm a church in Normandy and murder the 85-year-old priest Jacques Hamel, by slitting his throat, and also critically wound an 86-year-old man.
2020, Brahim Aouissaoui storms a Catholic basilica in Nice and stabs 3 people to death.
Macron stated today:
âWhat happened today is a turning point. It is the first time there has been a terrorist act planned to kill our compatriots, our children, because of the color of their skin or their religionâ
Watching France, the rhetoric of arrests, property seizures, wealth taxes, and asset confiscation is chilling. Meanwhile, California tech money bankrolls the very corrupt politicians pushing these policies. The consequences don't discriminate: rich and poor alike pay the price.

I honestly donât know how anyone can feel safe living in Oakland. The corruption, incompetence and staggering failures of political leadership are beyond disturbing.
Oakland's 911 system down since last night; still offline.
đ° The city's 911 system has been offline since 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night, according to mayor Barbara Lee and police.
đ° Reports show large fiber optic and copper cables sliced away by an apparent "bad actor," according to police chief James Beere.
đ° The police department's 911 call center has been re-routed to the county's system.
đ° Police say they are answering the phone but can only respond to "Priority One" calls.
đ° The city's 311 system also is down.

I think Paris should be a real wake up call to every single young American. France is the dream the left talks about. That dream is the nightmare I left from Chicago. That dream doesnât belong in our country. A society that comes down to how much you can take from others.

Juliana Stratton was on her talking points. But the fact is her âblueprintsâ have failed the people of Illinois repeatedly. You canât flood a city with housing shortage with hundreds of thousands of people you attract with free benefits and housing allowances and then act surprised when rents go up. Thatâs not a pathway. Thatâs making it harder for the people already here.

Well, that makes @Giannoulias a hard no for @ChicagosMayor
Yesterday @Giannoulias said that he opposes the Autonomous Vehicle Pilot Project bill that would legalize @robotaxi and @Waymo in 5 counties across Illinois.
Alexi Giannoulias is running for Mayor of Chicago and rerunning for Secretary of State (handles the issuing of driver licenses) so this is potentially a bump in the road for Illinois AVâs.
Some datesâŠthe next legislative session is around Thanksgiving and Mayoral Election is February with an April runoff. Current mayor term ends May 17th which is just before the end of the spring legislative session (next opportunity for Illinois AV legislative if the Fall session opportunity fails)

OpenAI says the PHP security flaw (found with GPT-5.6 Sol) is the tip of the iceberg, and they have several more discoveries to announce.
OpenAI models helped researchersâoperating as part of our Patch the Planet initiativeâdiscover critical security flaws in PHP, an open-source programming language used to run an estimated 70% of websites.
Over the past two months, we led a coalition of maintainers, researchers, and security providers to prepare fixes and protections ahead of disclosure. This duration was necessary because the fix was quite intricate and required a major change to the PHP engine. Every site using PHP can now safely upgrade their version to stay secure, in addition to applying mitigations from various security vendors.
Due to the severity of these flaws and PHPâs widespread use, we consider this bug to be one of the most impactful vulnerabilities in recent memory. It also marks a new phase, where AI can find security bugs with internet-scale impact.
This is an example of the Defenderâs Window in action: to our knowledge, frontier AI was able to find this vulnerability ahead of attackers, giving defenders time to prepare.

Italy's Meloni on protests & penalties:
If, during a march or demonstration, you join a group of five or more people and start throwing stones, firecrackers, sticks... you risk up to five years in prison and a fine of up to âŹ20,000.
You break it, you pay for it. And if the person who breaks it is a minor, their parents pay.
The parents of that kid who had fun smashing everything will have to pay.
An additional 500 military personnel will arrive in Milan by the end of the year to support the police and Carabinieri.
We will do everything we can to prevent what we have seen in recent days from becoming the new normal.
The youngest of the youths identified in Milan was reportedly just 11 years old. 11 years old. It hurts, and it is scary.
There is nothing revolutionary about causing devastation and stealing. Devastating and stealing is not a protest, it is criminality.
