What do the midterms mean for Cuba? Can the Democratic Party garner enough support to stop what Trump is doing? Or will leadership stand with hardliners and block progress, as it so often does? These are questions the next Congress faces regarding Cuba.

Democrats won Congress.
But did the Caribbean gain anything?
US maritime fees could raise regional freight costs 50–60%.
Borrowing costs and remittances remain exposed.
A divided Washington doesn't necessarily mean a safer Caribbean economy. caribbeanfinancialdispatch.s…

“Again and again during my travels on the island, people told me: Cuba is not like this. They didn’t just mean the hunger and sickness and lack of electricity. They meant the anger, the emptiness, the absence of music and laughter.” Powerful reporting by @robertfworth from an island where “the churches have taken on much of the...state’s old role in keeping people alive.”
“I came to Cuba expecting to see suffering. What I did not anticipate was the near-total collapse of the state,” @robertfworth writes. He reports from the island on what daily life is like: theatln.tc/ZaHxGHlS

The US Midterms and Caribbean-US Relations: A Blue Tsunami, But Will It Bring Real Change? caribbeantradelaw.com/2026/1…
All this and end the oil blockade against Cuba and end support for the genocide in Gaza!
The people of the United States have chosen their next slate of elected representatives at all levels of government, and their choices rang loud and clear.
Those elected, from community representatives to federal lawmakers, now bear a heavy burden as many lives and livelihoods, both inside and outside the United States, depend on their willingness to defend and protect human rights, democratic principles, and the rule of law.
All newly elected officials should choose accountability over impunity, equality over discrimination, and the full spectrum of people’s human rights over the arbitrary and unlawful exercise of power.

ALT Here is a polite and succinct alternative text description: A to-do list by Amnesty International titled "To-Do List for the New Congress" with ten numbered action items including abolishing ICE, defending free expression, ending funding for aerial operations, passing the Block the Bombs Act, stopping the Iran war, defending Ukraine, championing human rights, ending corruption, fighting for climate justice, regulating AI, and reversing Trump administration's withdrawal from international law. Background includes the U.S. Capitol dome.

Paraguay's corrupt right-wing President Santiago Peña was a close US ally.
He oversaw the creation of a digital bank called Ueno Bank, which his government heavily promoted. Two-thirds of Paraguayans used the bank.
It turned out to be a massive scheme. The bank gave out many fraudulent loans and is probably insolvent.
When this scandal was exposed, the bank froze access to customer funds, paralyzing the country's economy.
Peña resigned mere minutes before lawmakers voted to impeach him.
Arrest orders have been issued for the bank executives.

Barbados as always being a moral compass when large metropolitan countries cower or are indifferent to the suffering of our Cuban brothers and sisters at the hands of Empire.
Is it that customer service really needs to be taught in school or rather that some people need to learn basic manners? Do you need to be taught to say good morning, thank you or that it is rude ro be gossiping with coworkers or on your phone when customers are awaiting service?

Democrats: It's time to end Trump and Rubio's fuel blockade on Cuba. Cuban Americans want a new era in US-Cuba relations based on mutual respect and prosperity.
