Universal Design sure is a no-🧠er & homes that achieve a @Lifemark Star rating will deliver this.✅ #FutureProofNZHomes #DesignForLife
@Lifemark universal design is a no-brainer. So is the energy efficient Passive House (@PHI_NZ) building standard. It’s time @MBIEgovtnz required us to build UP to a standard not DOWN to a price. Future-proof our homes. Start at @KaingaOraGovtNZ. Do it right the first time.

Brilliant - well done. This future proofs our housing.
Back in 2020 St Andrews Village opened 'The Terraces'. The Terraces comprise of 48 Lifemark 5-Star apartments and are a great example of Multi-storey Universal Design. Read our recent story on this ⬇️ bit.ly/3cou6ce

Agreed and/or encouragement. Councils like Hamilton City, Thames Coromandel and Hauraki reward owners for including UD in new builds. Need more carrots 😄

Here in NZ despite an aging population and 1 in 4 with a disability we are still adding inaccessible homes to our housing stock. Time to rethink and build more Universally Designed homes. Lifemark is working to make 'forever' homes the new norm. @Lifemark

A development currently under construction in Takanini, Auckland has a target of 4 Lifemark 5-Star rated units. Do you think more developers should have this mindset? lifemark.co.nz/case-studies/…

In NZ 1 in 4 have a disability, this omits temp disabilities and the fact we have an ageing population. #UniversalDesign is for everyone!
For many people, leading an independent life may be fully conditional on the accessibility of public spaces & our homes. Official stats on disability omit health conditions, & temp disability. Accessibility is about all of us. That is, universal design.

Doing #universaldesign well necessitates a shift from an individual client/customer-centered focus to one that takes a perspective on the needs of the entire population.

With #facebookdown most of today, @Twitter deserves our #QuestionOfTheDay too !! A Lifemark approved product is reviewed against Universal Design principles, what are these principles?🤔
Design for human differences and no one gets left behind. #DisabilityRightsAreHumanRights
"Activists may need to consider universalizing the disability movement, presenting disability rights as broad protections available to all Americans, not just those who self-identify as disabled." Correct. ⬆️ Disability is part of the human experience. nytimes.com/2021/10/01/opini…

We support the need to make Aotearoa accessible for all. Disabled people play a key role in identifying & removing barriers. #DYK our Lead Accessibility Consultant Adam is a 'primary user' that plays a key role in the UD & access work we do. ➡️lifemark.co.nz/news/process-…

A People Centered Design approach + Primary User Expertise during the planning & design stage of a build=Industry leading UD best practice😉🤗
This is a global problem. Q: "what do we need to do as an industry to improve?" A: (1) Recognize that housing has a profound impact on one's health and quality of life. (2) Work with people who understand the nuances of health-related issues *before* construction occurs.
A great way to future proof homes for New Zealanders of all ages, stages and abilities & save on renovations and modifications in the future ⬇️👏

All new builds could be no less than 3 and public housing new builds or houses attracting subsidy could be designed to higher lifemark. Saves costs for households and the country.
